Are you not entertained? The World Series has been full of drama. Sunday alone was enough to do permanent damage to my body; I think I aged 10 years. Over the first 5 games, there has been drama galore; it’s been an ongoing soap opera. And wait, there’s more! As the Stomach Turns will continue in about 4 hours with Game 6.
I’ve been trying to get things done at work & home, but that’s been rough. I’ve done emails & meetings, but on a day like today, please don’t expect me to think much. Just like at home… yes, I’ll try to not be a total slob, but other than the basics, I’m in my own zone right now. It’s the Cubs zone; can’t think of much else.
The anticipation for tonight is large, just like it was Sunday. To finally be pushed to the very end of the line, where one loss equals a season incomplete, is really something. It isn’t for the faint of heart. And that’s just me talking… a die hard fan. Imagine how these players are doing.
And some say they’re choking… How easy we throw that term around. The Cubs have choked in the past, no doubt about it. A lot of teams & players choke in the prime time. Every single thing that happens in this series with every single Cub player is magnified by that 108 year old microscope. I think if we’ve learned one thing this year, is that the past is the past; we have now stepped into a new era for the Cubs.
Forget the curse talk. Forget about all the history, and bad things that have happened to this franchise over 108 years. Heck, if we made a list of bad things that happen to a franchise, and if we are looking at a 108 year window, that list would be pretty long for any franchise. The problem with the Cubs is that there is nothing to balance those bad things out; there is no World Series title.

I feel like it’s been franchise changing. I feel like the Cubs are here to stay. There is no going backwards. There is no more “lovable losers”. This team will be in the middle of things for many years to come. So with all that said, is it OK if the Cubs come up short this year?
The short answer is NO. And no, I’m not trying to mentally prepare myself for that to happen. Like I said, I’m not thinking of that right now. I’m staying positive. I’m staying confident. That’s the new Cubs fan in me that’s been brought out by this new Cubs team. I think about good things happening not bad things. I feel like we can overcome any adversity, instead of shriveling up under pressure. I do believe, more than ever, that great things will happen for the Cubs. I believe that those great things start now.
The ultimate great thing is a World Series title. For this new Cubs team, for this franchise, nothing less than that is acceptable. Gone are the days of just getting to 500 is acceptable. Gone are the days of making the playoffs equals success. Here are the days of World Series or bust. It’s a good place to be. I can certainly get used to this.
So here’s to NOT busting. Here’s to ending the season with expectations fulfilled. Here’s to that first World Series title in our lifetimes that sits a mere 2 wins away. Here’s to the Chicago Cubs and their fans! It’s time to make all of our dreams come true.
We will all be tuning in, along with millions of others, to see how this story ends. We’re at the end of the book. The second to last chapter is about to begin. Game 6 is almost here. So buckle up, get that white knuckle grip, and get ready for the next ride. This is awesome. Let’s Go Cubs!!!
