May 9, 2024: Playoff Check-In

OK, where we at with the NBA & NHL playoffs? Let’s do a quick playoff check-in.

We’re down to the final four in each conference. Let’s start out East. Boston vs Cleveland was an absolute joke on Thursday night. Honestly, the Celtics are kind of a joke. Live by the three, die by the three. This team is acting like it’s too good for itself, and you know what, they haven’t won jack shit. Now, I doubt the Cavs will win the series, and I’d be shocked if Boston doesn’t make the Finals, but man… it’s hard to watch this team. I’d much rather watch the team on the other side of the Eastern Conference. Yes, the Knicks… OK, being a big Thibs guy certainly makes me biased, but… they play hard; they will NOT be outworked. Now, with the OG injury and Brunson not 100%, the Pacers may come back in this series, but I do think at the end of the day, the Knicks will punch their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals. On the Eastern side of the NHL, the Rangers beat the Hurricanes, again, this time in Carolina, to take a 3-0 series lead; the Rangers are certainly no slouch, but this is shocking. Series over right? The winner of this series gets the winner of the Bruins Panthers tilt, in what is an ultimate revenge series. After Florida ended Boston’s season in Round 1 last year after a record breaking regular season, the Bruins get their shot. They split the first two in Florida, and now return to Boston on Friday night. Game on!

Out West, Dallas evened the series against OKC; talk about a team that couldn’t miss. I still expect OKC to win that series, have already bet on that, will probably add some more, including Game 3 in Dallas. And how about the Minnesota Timberwolves? Are the Nuggets toast? The defending champs are back against the wall, must win time in Game 3 in Minny on Friday night; will that championship pedigree come through, or are the young T-pups just too much? In the NHL, there have already been 2 amazing comebacks, with the Canucks snatching the series lead against Edmonton, and Colorado sneaking one out in Dallas. Dallas evened the series on Thursday night; will Edmonton do the same? Either way, I’ve already placed a wager on the Stanley Cup winner to come from the Western Conference… per a conversation I had with a Canadian that I work with… inside info! Haha…

It’s been fun. Sure, I talk crap about the NBA, but the playoffs are a good time… so are the NHL games. It’s great because this is each team playing their best, unless you’re the Celtics of course, and just putting it on automatic thinking the talent will win out… watch out! More than anything though, I miss it… I miss the Bulls and Blackhawks being in the playoffs. The 2015 Cup the last series the Blackhawks won!?!?! Same year the Bulls won their last playoff series. It’s been too long. We deserve better. The Hawks arrow is pointed the right way, while the Bulls… woof! In the meantime, I’ll just sit back and enjoy, and try to make a couple bucks while I’m at it. Looking forward to the games on Friday night.
