Back to the Cubs, and the way they ended the series against the Marlins. I mentioned it in one of my earlier blogs, but this Marlin team played the Cubs tough. I’m not sure if they just played up to the level of competition, or the Cubs played down to theirs, but each of these 4 games in the series were really good. Of course, winning 3 in a row after losing the 1st game helps me think this. Winning 2 of the games in the series in walk off fashion… boo ya!
First it was KB. Has he been zoned in or what? That was a blast to win the game on Tuesday night. Next up was JHey. Long time coming for Mr. Heyward. He’s having the type of year we expected when we signed him to his big deal. Let’s put the first 3 years behind us, and ride this one as long as we can. He walked off on Wednesday night. Both KB and JHey got mobbed at home plate. Then it was shower time. Multiple water and Gatorade coolers dumped on each of them. It wasn’t that warm out either… that had to be cold. But pour it on baby…

Rizzo, after hitting his 200th career home run the other night, hit his 200th home run as a Cub in this one. It will actually be a great trivia question in the future. Anthony Rizzo has 501 career home runs… how many of those did he hit with the Cubs? The answer will be minus one from whatever his career total will end up to be. That lone home run, his first of his career, coming as a San Diego Padre. For his 201st career home run, he went to one knee, as he crushed it to center. Love how he goes down to that knee and can still produce enough power for the ball to fly out of here. Bryant started the scoring with another home run early in this one. Of course he’s heating up while I’m playing him in fantasy baseball; he’s absolutely crushing me this week. But I don’t mind… trade that all day every day for Cubs Ws.
Yeah, OK, 6 of the Cubs wins have come against the Marlins this year; unfortunately we will get no more chances to play them, unless the Marlins make the playoffs… haha. Screw them… enjoy your time at the bottom of the National League. There will be bigger fish to fry this weekend at Wrigley. If the Cubs are the hottest team in baseball, the Brewers are the 2nd hottest, or vice versa. It should be fun. Still early, but pending the series outcome, one of these teams will be leaving in first place in the division. Go Cubs!
