May 8, 2018: Odds Are

posted in: Bears | 1

Now that the draft is done, Papa Vegas came out with some early odds for the 2018-2019 NFL season.  Have you seen how that looks for the Bears?

6.5 over/under win total is the first one I’ll talk about.  I’m thinking over… of course I am.  There are only 4 teams with lower over/under win totals.  I could have guessed the Browns at 5.5, but may not have guessed the Cardinals at the same total.  Then the Jets and the Dolphins are pegged at 6.  The Bears are lumped in with the Bills, Colts, Giants, and Bucs at 6.5

On the flip side, the Patriots are the highest at 11.  I mean, go figure.  Not only are the bastard B&B boys still together, but the other three teams in their division are on the list I mentioned above.  So a weak division to boot!  Sounds like the Cavs in the East..  Other double digit win totals are the Eagles and Steelers at 10.5, and the cheese at 10.

But back to the Bears for now.  Not surpassing that assigned win total would be a huge disappointment in my opinion.  Forget about taking baby steps with the new coach and new offense; there is enough talent on this team to see large strides THIS year.  Why not?  There are always teams that turn it around from one year to the next.  Why can’t it be us?

Young franchise QB being matched up with a head coach and offense that will play to his strengths.  A returning genius defensive coordinator with some more talent on a defense that had already made strides last year is a good thing, right?  Some new blood at the WR position with the 2 returning RBs should assist Mitch.  I’m sorry, but I expect big things this year, at least more than 6.5 wins.  At the very least, 7-8 wins, right?

A quick look at the division odds… Vikings even money, Packers 8-5, Lions 5-1, and Bears 14-1.  I understand the Vikes no doubt, and of course the Packers will get the Aaron Rodgers love; not so convinced the Pack live up to that billing.  But the Lions???  OK, so 7-8 wins at the very least this year, and, and… finish ahead of the Lions, and out of last place for the first time in 3 years I think…  There is some value there in my opinion; maybe worth a few bucks in Vegas when I go…

I always think the Bears will do better than predicted, well, most of the time.  I was pretty negative during the Cutler era; couldn’t stand that jerk.  But now, now… with Mitch and Vic and now Nagy, and the moves that Pace is doing to improve the team, I feel like my die hard optimism will finally be justified with the results on the field.

And we won’t have to wait long, once the season starts that is.  A win in the Bears Packers game to kickoff the season will only add to the enthusiasm, or…7-8 wins would still be in range.  Bear Down!

Give me the over on the Bears and 6.5. Of course, I am another die hard fan so what would you expect me to say? I definitely feel that the Bears are moving in the right direction. Baby steps or can the Bears make a big leap? Enough with the baby steps. The Bears D has been taking baby steps for the last few years…top 5 this year! MTru with his first full year coming under a new coaching staff with new weapons at wr and a stud rb and versatile other rb weapon…yeah, give me over 6.5 wins. A game 1 W vs the fugepack would be a helluva start…cant wait! BEAR DOWN!!!
