May 8, 2015: The Governors

OK.  Another late post… Should be sleeping… gotta get this one in… and tomorrow’s at the same time.  Double dip time.  These will be fun.

First thing’s first, how about them Hawks?  A sweep of the Wild gets the Hawks halfway to their goal of 16 wins and a 3rd Stanley Cup.  I didn’t catch too much of the Game 4 victory, but I still have enough to talk about here.  Let’s take a look at some recent history.

This year makes the 5th trip to the Western Conference Finals in 7 years.  Not bad at all.  It all started in Q’s first year as coach when we advanced to play Detroit in the WCF.  That didn’t go well, but it was just cool to get there.  I don’t think many expected the Hawks to win that series; it was really men against boys that year.  But, that was a critical learning experience for these young Hawks.  That was back in 2009.  As we all know, we made it back to the WCF in 2010 and defeated San Jose on our way to the first Cup for this Hawks team.  The next 2 years were both first round exits, but we returned in 2013 to defeat the Kings on our way to the 2nd Cup.  Last year, we were right back there against the Kings again; that one didn’t turn out to well.  Too bad we couldn’t have settled the score this year… one of us didn’t even make the playoffs.  Anyways, last year’s loss in the WCF seems to have served as an important learning experience just as the loss to the mighty Wings back in 2009.  The Hawks will try to continue their run to the Cup against the winner of the Flames Ducks series.

Back to the Wild series for a minute… did you know that the Hawks never trailed in this series?  Talk about domination.  I saw people predict the Wild to win this series.  They were talking about the hot Wild team with a hot goalie.  Yeah, how’d that turn out?  The same way it turned out the last 3 years against the Wild.  Isn’t it time to give somebody else a chance?  I mean, the Wild shouldn’t even be allowed to play the Hawks going forward.  It’s becoming an annual tradition this beatdown of the Wild.  Unfortunately, there was some bad news that came out of this series clinching win.

Rozsival has played his last game in a Hawks uniform.  OK, maybe some may not consider this that bad of news, but he was better than Timonen.  So you’re telling me now we have to see more of that guy?  I didn’t think there could be anybody slower than Rozsival.  It’s about time to bring up one of our young defensemen and let it rip.  OR…. how about moving one of our forwards to defense.  Desjardins maybe?  I’m sure Q will make the right move, and even though losing #32 isn’t a game changer, we’ll still miss him.  Peace out Michal.

So back to the title of this blog… have you figured it out yet?  I always try to throw the title of my blogs somewhere in the post.  This will be no different.  So Minnesota is called the State of Hockey….  you get it now.  8 down 8 to go…. GO HAWKS!

Hawks had a tight grip on that leash they were dragging minny around on. Owned em like a man walking his dog. With the sweep complete, time to let them into the wild for the 3rd straight postseason. Man, it feels good to be on this end. How lucky have we been watching this Hawks team? 5 conference finals in the last 7 years, a possible 3 Cups out of 6 years?!? WOW…crazy good! Ok ok, not quite there yet as the Hawks still have work to do this year. The journey is only halfway over, but I think they will be ready for that mighty duck squad. Get some rest boys, especially after that crazy end to game 4. Work on those empty net attempts Toews…hahaha! GO HAWKS!!!
