Mike Miller? Iman Shumpert? Tim Mozgov? As I hurried home from work to catch the start of Game 1, I heard the announcement of the Cleveland Cavaliers starting lineup on the radio. I was like, really? THIS is the team that’s favored to beat us. It’s only one game, and we’ve been here before against a LeBron team, but the Bulls did what they should against this team on Monday night.
I honestly can’t believe Mike Miller is still in the league. The only reason is because he’s LeBron’s limo driver, I get it now. Iman Shumpert is a Chicago boy, and he has a place in my heart for that reason, but in this series, let’s just call it as it is; he’s not that good. He’s a nice complementary player who plays solid defense. And then there’s Mozgov, who even Chris Webber said (and by the way, man do I miss Stacey King doing the Bulls game) was a bum on the Nuggets, and now he’s transformed? I’m sorry, you can take a bum from a bum team, but you can’t take the bum out of the bum. He’s serviceable at best. So this is 60% of the Cavs starting lineup…. wow!
Of course there are the other 2 starters, and they’re pretty damn good. Kyrie made some unbelievable moves against us last night, and although LeBron was slowed down a bit by Buckets, he’s still LeBron. So it’s those 2 guys or bust for Cleveland, and against a team like the Bulls, I’m calling for trouble. Yeah, so what JR Smith comes back in Game 3. What’s his claim to fame? Dribble around, and chuck up 3 pointers? What else you got? Yeah, OK, so maybe he can be a bit more streaky than the rest of the 3 point shooting crew that the Cavs run out there… Jones, Dellanova, but he’s not all that. Honestly, even if the Cavs had Kevin Love, I think we’d have a good shot.
Yeah, that’s big talk for one win, and I’ll pump the brakes… a little bit. There is always the next game to worry about, and that will be Wednesday night in Cleveland. I loved the way Jimmy played D on LBJ, except for most of the game, LBJ was trying to be a facilitator. He passed up a number of open shots; I’ve seen him do this before. And I’ll give him those 3 pointers all day long. So, I’m thinking maybe a switch in strategy as the series goes on. Maybe we put him on Kyrie??? Shut his young ass down, and let LeBron pour in a bunch of points… and cut down on his faciltating. Because after all, that’s what he really wants to do. He wants to pass the ball, not shoot, especially in the big moment. Maybe we’ll see some more of that later this series…

I was screaming at Gasol in the first half to get a damn rebound… and get under the basket. He listened, sort of. He started to grab some rebounds, but he falls in love with that mid range jumper all too often. Thankfully, he hit them… a lot of them in the 3rd quarter yesterday. I guess if he keeps hitting them I can’t complain, but I’m thinking he can take anybody the Cavs have on their roster down low. Another thing too… we can’t continue to let Irving drive and make shots on our bigs. Either swat that crap out of here, or knock the crap out of him. We can’t have that happen. Noah looked pretty bad. He blew the open layup, and ended with 0 points. Scoring was never his claim to fame, but this was bad. He wasn’t even on the floor down the stretch, and rightfully so. I think he’s fine in the long run… If there’s anybody who really wants to win this series, it’s him. He’ll be a little extra motivated after last night’s performance, and that’s never a bad thing.
And oh yeah, let’s not forget about Dunleavy on fire. We didn’t even have to count on Mirotic, who I don’t think is 100%, or Snell, who will play some big minutes before it’s all said and done. Hmmm… who am I forgetting? Oh yeah… there’s that other guy….#1… that guy that missed the playoffs the past 3 years. He looked pretty damn good too. Overall, a win is a win, and I’ll take it.
It’s only one win… three more to go this series. Far from over. But I think Vegas has it wrong here… I’m looking at this Cavs team and I’m thinking the Bulls shouldn’t be the underdogs. But… that’s what scares me. Papa Vegas always has a plan… and with LBJ and Irving driving to the hole, I’m thinking they’ll be heading to the line a lot more… getting any and every call they need. Settle in for a great series. Glad to get this first one in the books… ready for game 2. Go Bulls!

The Bulls should not lose this series, and it is not because I am overly confident after game1. It is because the Bulls are the better TEAM with more depth and talent. They only way for the cavs to beat the Bulls is to have their garbage role players play out of their minds and drill multiple threes. If not, kyrie and his queen cannot do it alone. They will try, but the Bulls should be able to outlast them and take this series. For some reason, this series kind of reminds me of 91 vs the pistons. We all know what happened there…sweep! I am not predicting that…yet. But if the Bulls can win game 2, why not? The Bulls are the better team…play that way!
GO BULLS!!!
