An earlier departure from work today meant some Cubs day baseball viewing. It was everything I thought it would be.
I would have liked to attend the game, except I would have had to leave last night to get there on time. Still, being home from work, able to watch a Cubs weekday day game from your couch, is nothing to sneeze at.
Here, let’s just cut to the chase. The Cubs kicked the crap out of the Pirates… not just today, but for the last 3 days. We beat them like a drum. This is the 2nd place team in our division. It was men against boys out there. OK, yeah, I know… it’s only May.
But like the Sox for the first few weeks of the season, the Cubs could be criticized for not playing anybody… I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that, but I did think this week’s games at Pittsburgh and at home vs Washington would be interesting. Are the Cubs really this good?
Well, after the first half of the test, I would say heck yes. Still, trying not to get too excited, I wait to see how we do against the 2nd best team in the National League this weekend at Wrigley. Maybe they’ll give us some better games… the Pirates sure didn’t.

I read some other sick stat that the Cubs had somebody on base in like 24 of the 27 innings played. Our starters dominated them. Yes, Lester was on the ropes a bit today, but he got out of every jam. The Pirates would have been shutout had Warren decided not to give up his first earned runs of the season. Still, our run differential is still looking good.
I didn’t even follow that too much before this year, but lately, that’s been talked about a lot… and since it’s good, historically good for the Cubs, I’ve paid attention. +93 so far this year… only 2 teams in the history of baseball had a better one through the first 26 games. At this pace, the Cubs would shatter the 1939 Yankees record of 411; this year’s Cubs team is projected to hit 579. That’s scary good. Then I heard PTI talk about the Cubs breaking the major league record for wins in a season which is 118. OK, I need to calm down.
Just breathe… just be happy the Cubs were the first to 20. Yes, the first major league team to win 20 games. 20-6 at this point. Saw some Comcast stat for the Cubs from a handful of years ago… took them 60 games to get 20 wins. My how times have changed.
This team is good. It’s only May, but you can just see it… I’m sure they’ll go through slumps, I’m hoping they don’t get hit harder with injuries… things could change for the worst, definitely. But it’s hard not to be excited with what we’ve been witnessing on the field thus far. It’s damn impressive.
Back home… for 4 against Dusty, Bryce, and the Nationals. Another test? Bring it on.

Cubs run differential is awesome, and the pitching and beat down of the bucs was even better. sWeep time indeed…beat up any more coolers, Rodriguez? Hahaha
The Cubs are the top team in the majors. They play the 2nd best team in the nats this weekend. I am sure the Cubs welcome the challenge. Winning early in the spring and building up that record is important because slumps will come, as will more injuries, just hopefully not any more major ones. The main thing is being consistently good all year, playing into the fall, and finishing the 2016 year as the best team in baseball…FINALLY!
GO CUBS GO!!!
