May 31, 2024: Hard Knock Life

Did you hear the news? Of course you did. The Chicago Bears will be featured on Hard Knocks on HBO this season. Let’s hype this season up even more!

I’m totally fine with it. Honestly, I haven’t watched much Hard Knocks over the years; maybe I watched a bit when it first started so many years ago, but since my team was never featured… I didn’t get into it. Now that the Bears will be on it, this will become appointment TV; already told my son we’ll be watching it together… he’s in. I don’t get the people that aren’t excited about it… why not? Too much hype, too much build up, setting us up to faceplant again? Well, been there done that, let me tell you. I don’t need Hard Knocks to get hyped up about a Bears season; I don’t need anything extra to start planning the parade early in the season. We’re starving as Bears fans, OK? Thankfully, I was alive the last and only time the Bears won the Super Bowl. Sure, I was a kid, but I remember it pretty clearly; it was a glorious time. Since then… well, there was another Super Bowl visit, and a handful of playoff appearances after that 80s Bears team, but still only the 1 Super Bowl win. How many faceplants has it been since then? Is Hard Knocks supposed to make it any worse if/when the next one occurs? Don’t think so.

Caleb Williams is made for Hard Knocks… that’s what some people say. I will say this; we have seen a lot of him thus far. We’ve seen tape from camp; we’ve seen him at a Cubs game. We’ve seen him at DJ Moore’s kid’s camp. We’ve seen him in a Wrigleyville bar, having a blast. Saw a mural of him already painted with the now famous “Bear Claw”. The hype machine is already running wild; this show will only be the cherry on the top. I say bring it on. It’s good to be one of the teams at the center of the NFL’s attention, although I certainly don’t mind flying under the radar. However, drafting Caleb Williams with the #1 overall pick this year has put us smack dab on that radar; cool. He seems like a good dude; maybe he WILL be perfect for this show. Maybe he will a great “made for TV” QB… I’m fine with all of that, as long as, at the end of the day, he is a WINNING QB…

Having to watch the NBA & NHL playoffs without our teams, watching our baseball teams flounder, the anticipation for Bears season is building at a faster rate than normal; we’re always hyped up for Bears season. But this one… this seems to have a little something extra going on, and now living the Hard Knock Life… yeah, it IS a whole lot of hype. Here’s to living up to the hype! Bear Down!
