May 31, 2019: All Aboard

I’ve been seeing a lot more Sox gear lately… they must be playing good again.  The bandwagon is now officially open.  If you’re a casual Sox fan, time to jump on.  If you’re a Chicago fan, time to dust off that Sox gear.  If you’re trying to get slightly ahead of the curve, now is the time.  The Sox are starting to play good baseball again… all aboard!

Of course die hard fans are always around; I know.  As a die hard Cubs fan, I know plenty about bandwagon fans.  The Cubs have the most bandwagon fans… period.  I think it’s pretty safe to say that.  They also have more fans than just about any team, due to the whole WGN thing, that’s finally ending this year.  But yes, plenty of folks want to be Cubs “fans”; whether it’s because they like Wrigley Field, or the Cubs are the best option for folks from the Midwest, or because they recently won a World Series, the bandwagon is always full.  It doesn’t bother me so much; sometimes it’s good to let some people off though…  it’s good for the “in” thing NOT to be rooting for YOUR team.  I know where I sit, through better or worse.  Not giving up my seat… ever.  I’m sure there are fans like this of every team, even the White Sox.

They’re not quite at 500 yet, although over the past X # of games they’ve been playing above that level.  You have the Tim Anderson antics… and oh yeah, really good start to the season.  You have the emergence of a legit ace in Giolito… small sample size, sure, but he’s been really good.  You have young guys trying to find their groove, and more young guys waiting in the wings for promotion from the minors.  I think it’s safe to say the window is just about to open for the Sox.  I always say, get to 500, and anything can happen.  Well, they’re almost there.  The dream of an all-Chicago World Series in my lifetime could be coming true soon…  this year???

Well, that may be a stretch.  Sure, the Cubs will be there, but the Sox have some hurdling to go once they get to 500.  The division is already double digits out of sight.  The wild card race is full of really good teams.  Are the Sox “really good” yet?  They are definitely showing signs of being legit; maybe a year too early?  Maybe a 2015 Cubs playoff appearance type year?  I thought it would be last year; I’m a year off a lot of the time.  It’s good to see the Sox finally playing well… sort of.

Starting to see the Sox fans stick their heads and chests out.  They’re getting bold now… seeing some wins, and they’re getting crazy.  It’s all good, believe me, I can relate.  But maybe like the Tim Anderson pimp trips around the bases… acting like he’s the first guy who ever did that… pump those brakes Sox fans.  I know it’s hard, especially when you’ve sucked for so long.  Ah screw it, enjoy it, because you never know when that next win is coming… and Go Cubs!!!
