May 31, 2015: Focused

It is crazy how good this team can be when they are 100% zoned in.  When focused, this team is scary good. The Blackhawks showed us again why they are a team for the ages.

Oh, it’s not over yet. I’m not counting any chickens here vs the Lightning for the Cup… And neither are the Hawks.  They know better now. I still go back to last year’s playoff exit. Great teams can take a devastating loss like that and turn it into a learning experience that can make them that much better…that much more focused.

And who leads this zoned in Hawks team?  Who knows what it takes?  Well, many guys on this team to be honest, but there is a reason that you wear the C on your sweater.  Captain Serious was every bit so.  It’s one thing to say the right things and be a leader in that locker room.  But when it counts the most, to go out there and do it… That’s what makes you legendary.  Toews led off the scoring with a rebound putback that made sure we were the first team to score in this decisive game 7.  Toews then scored a power play goal which went a long way in ensuring that team that scored first would go onto win each and every game in this series.  He took their heart out. He showed everybody else how it’s done. He showed who the man was.  We all know how special this guy is…he just keeps reminding us.   Oh, and we have more…

Because we knew this team would not give up… We knew how great a series this has been. We knew not to take anything for granted. After all, we did go up 2-0 in last years game 7.  This year would be different. There was no getting overconfident. There would be no let up, or let down depending how you look at it. The Hawks kept it going. The Hawks kept their foot on the gas… Their foot on the Ducks throat.

Scoring a goal at the outset of the 2nd period was a crusher. Kane to Saad led to a wide open net deposit. We all know of the Kaner…and his prowess in big games. How about Saadman (thanks Matt)?  He was one of the best players in this series.  That line Toews-Kane-Saad can rival any in the NHL. His speed is impressive. He was the guy that put the Hawks in that power play position that led to Toews 2nd goal.  Once in a game 7 scrum that incorrectly took a Hammer goal off the board against the Wings in 2013, Brandon Saad was front and center throughout this Game 7, and the entire series for that matter.  And he’s the youngest of this young core.  Like I said, scary good.

Then there was Hossa and Seabrook who completed the goal scoring. Shaw was there setting screens. Keith was there being Keith. And how about that guy in the crease. Not that guy that wilted as this series went on… Not that guy who wilted as last years series vs the Kings went on. It was that guy who was the MVP of the 2013 cup run…and yeah, I know the official one was Kane.  Corey Crawford was damn good…again.  And the rest of the Hawks were all there too…showing the depth of this talented squad.  And how about coach Q!

But it was the star power that shone brightest in this one. It wasn’t some unsung hero as predicted by some article I read before the game. It was the guys who have done it before. It was the big time players on this big time team that won another big time game. (Mk again…although I did say it first).

I’m so proud of this team. The journey is not over yet, but I know the Hawks know that too..another reason to be proud of the guys…to be confident in this group…to be thankful that they play here in front of us Chicago fans.  They’re back in the Finals. Their focus is back, and that’s a scary thing for any other team in the NHL. They’re back to getting the dynasty back on track. Four more wins are what it will take to raise that Cup for the third time in six years.  Wednesday starts the final part of this journey in Tampa Bay.  Hell yeah!  Go Hawks!!!

What game and series! The Ducks were damn good, but the Hawks are on another level. No disrespect to the Lightning, but it would be disappointing and a letdown to not finish the job. 4 more wins and the Hawks will have 3 Cups in 6 years…pretty damn amazing!
    GO HAWKS!!!
