For a guy who doesn’t like the NBA today, I certainly talk about it enough. Well, what the hell is there? Yes, I HAVE been watching the NHL playoffs; they’ve been good… a lot more competitive than the NBA playoffs, let me tell you. But yeah, the NBA Finals… set. The Mavs beat the Timberwolves, actually embarrassed the hell out of them, on Thursday night, moving on to confirm a date with the Boston Celtics. The winner will be crowned the 2024 NBA Champs. Who you got?
You know we have to wait a week for this series to begin? That’s crazy. At least we have the WNBA to watch in the meantime right? Yeah ok. Yes, 7 days until the NBA Finals begin; plenty of time for all the talking heads to drop their opinions on the series. There’s plenty of time for bettors to decide who they want to put their money on. The popular opinion, all year, has been the Celtics of course. They ARE the most talented team in the league; that don’t get you a ring though. The Mavs… one of the teams I hated betting on the most in the NBA this year because of their Jekyll and Hyde quality… have got hot at the right time. The guys they acquired in-season worked out OK too. 3 months ago I would have said Boston in a blow-out; now though? Well, I think it will actually be a good series.
Luka and Kyrie vs Tatum and Brown… no shortage of big names in this series. Will the pair be matched up against each other throughout the series? I’d like to see that. If it was all based on JUST these pairs, I’d lean Mavericks. Luka, although looking like a bartender and acting like a baby who needs his diaper changed at times, is unreal; the dude can play ball, flat out. He is a great player. Not the biggest fan of World B Flat, but he did make the clutch shots to help LeBron bring a title to “the Land”. Luka getting his first, Kyrie adding a second… would do wonders for those guys’ legacies. Speaking of legacies… the Celtics have been in the mix, for a minute now, and they have nada to show for it. If they leave this year’s finals with nothing, well… like I said, at least they’ll have a coach to fire.
Will Porzingis be back? He damn well should be, but don’t count on him playing the whole series; he’ll be hurt again, just watch. I like Holliday; I think that’s one of the wild cards in this series. Matching him up with Luka maybe? That would be interesting. He hasn’t brought much to the table offensively, so certainly makes sense to have him exert all his efforts on defense. Who will defend the Gafford and Lively dunks all series? This is another key question. Old man Horford? I doubt it. Porzingis could help, if he stays healthy, and we all know how that will play out.
OK, this probably won’t be the last time we talk NBA Finals; I’m sure there will be other props I may have some interest in before it kicks off. Plenty of stuff to listen to in the meantime. Actually should be a decent Finals, even if I’m not a fan of either team… well, until I make my bets… haha.
