It was a beautiful Memorial Day. The weather here in Chicago was absolutely perfect. As the national anthem was sang, the American flag was opened across the field. That’s what this day was really all about.
I don’t remember that so much growing up… about the importance of these days. Now, you see all kinds of stuff about it… and the recognition the Veterans get. That’s good. It’s easy to say thank you. So Thank You… to all the Veterans today, including my dad. Joining the military was never even a thought for me. For those that think it, and more importantly, do it… much respect. They’re one of the reasons we get to sit back and enjoy days like this. Every single baseball team was in action.
The ones we’re concerned about are the Sox and the Cubs. Quintana was on the hill for the White Sox against Harvey from the Mets in New York this afternoon. It was an all out pitcher’s duel; go figure. Every time Quintana is pitching, the Sox don’t score any runs. So I’m not giving Matt Harvey any credit here. It’s bad enough the Sox don’t score any runs for Quintana… add in the slump they’re on. I think Dwight Gooden could have came out of retirement and shut them down today. 1-0 was the end result, and another loss for the absolutely reeling Sox.
It has gotten ugly really quick. Where do they go from here? Well, you have to stop the bleeding first; win a game. You need to dig deep. You may need to shake things up. Although I heard a good point on the radio today… If you were told at the beginning of the season that the Sox would only be 2 games out at the end of May, you would be happy, right? Yeah, but knowing the kind of start the Sox had, and to see that disappear… it hurts.

The Cubs participated in their own shutout this afternoon. It was Hammel on the mound, and he’s been really, really good this year. But he didn’t stick around for this one, due to an injury. They say it was only cramping; I hope so. It just reminds me of how quickly things can change for the Cubbies. Injuries are brutal. The right guys, and enough of them, could sink any team. That’s my biggest fear nowadays. Hopefully he’s OK.
It was the bullpen who came in and shut the Dodgers down. They didn’t give up a hit. In fact the only hit, was a high pop fly in the first inning that fell in between 3 Cubs as they seemingly lost it in the high sky. I know I’m supposed to be worried about the Dodgers… I just can’t. Well, the only reason I will continue to mention them as a threat come postseason is because of Kershaw. We won’t see him in this 4 game set, and that’s good. He is the only person that concerns me from this Dodgers team. Nobody else pitching or hitting scares me. I’m looking for at least 3 out of 4 in this series.
Zeros were the common theme for our baseball teams, although they sat on opposite sides once again. That’s been happening all too often lately, at the expense of the nose-diving Sox. Before we go, one more shout out to the Vets. Thank you for doing something most of us can’t even fathom doing. We thank you, but really don’t understand. We thank you for doing something most of us don’t even think about… things most of us don’t even want to think about. I’d much rather be thinking about baseball, or any other sport… and I am, we are, and that’s pretty cool. TY.

Cubs rollin, sox reelin. Time to do something to shake things up a bit rockin robin…charge the mound and get pounded on…hahaha. The sox need something to snap their funk. Their fast start is basically by the boards now. Time to dig in and grind.
Cubs continue to take advantage of great starting pitching and some home cookin at Wrigley. No better place to watch a game when the weather is nice and Cubs are hot! Enjoy it and show la who the big dog is in the nl.
