It was only last year when the Blackhawks were in this same position: Game 7 Western Conference Finals. We all know the result from last year; we all hope we know the result from this year. If everything goes according to plan, it’s the Blackhawks that will be flipping the script.
Actually, a year ago today, the Blackhawks won. They beat the Kings in LA in Game 6 to force a Game 7 back at the UC. I remember that one fondly. I recapped it here last year: http://www.thelocalsportstalk.com/may-31-2014-thrill-seekers/. It was an awesome game that completed 2/3 of the comeback for the Hawks in the series. We won’t review Game 7. One thing is certain though… these Hawks sure know how to entertain. This is the most exciting team in recent Chicago sports history.
They are the winningest (if that’s a word) team also. I don’t think we’re being greedy to want another Cup. In fact looking at the Q era, this team has NOT won the Cup more times than they have won it. They’ve come up short 4 times and hoisted it twice. They’ve been to the Western Conference Finals now 5 times in the past 7 years; they’ve won twice and lost twice. So it’s not like the Hawks are winning ALL the time. Although when it comes to Chicago sports teams, they’ve been better than almost any other team we’ve ever had.
Only the 90s Bulls dynasty can top the consistent winning of this current Hawks team. Those were great days, just as these are. I’ve said it numerous times… we’re very lucky to be watching this team. They are already an all time team, and their history is still not completely written. Who knows after it is all said and done…
Let’s just get back to tonight, because after all, that’s what it’s all about. They need to keep winning to add to their lore. Yes, the Cups are ours forever, and this Hawks team is already etched in stone, but to reach that dynasty level, we need to keep winning. If the losses in big games start outnumbering the wins, the greatness of the Hawks doesn’t shine quite as bright.

I’ve been careful this year not to underestimate any of our opponents… as I did last year. This Ducks team may be our greatest challenge. This series may be the best series of all of them. Again, the only way it gets that tag in my book is to win Game 7 tonight. And I feel that they will.
It’s not being overconfident. It’s just believing in all this stuff I’m writing. It’s just believing in what’s happening on the ice. It’s just believing in the greatness of the Hawks. It’s a quiet confidence. Although it was shaken briefly after the Game 5 OT loss, it was never close to being gone. The same goes for winning tonight. It’s what big time teams do. Win big time games.
It’s what big time players do, and the Hawks have plenty of them. Who do you focus on if you’re the Ducks? The Hawks have multiple guys that can make big plays. The Ducks will continue their physical style of play, but after an extra day off between games, and the season on the line in this game, that will not be a factor. We deal about tomorrow tomorrow. It’s all in for this one tonight.
So how about some predictions? I can’t wait until tonight. How will the next chapter be written? I’m going with a 3-1 Hawks victory. I’m calling Saad and Kane and Toews goals. I’m believing in the Hawks. Tonight should be just another testament to their greatness. It’s time to win another big game…. Game 7… on the road… with a trip to the Finals on the line. This is what it’s all about. Buckle up boys… or better yet, tonight it’s hands in the air… no holding on. We’re heading towards the end of this latest rollercoaster ride and the best part is coming around the bend. GO HAWKS!!!
