So the Bears didn’t pickup the 5th year option on Mitch Trubisky; anybody shocked? Seriously, talk about making something out of nothing. I think we all knew that wasn’t going to happen. Fact is, it’s do or die for Mitch THIS year; we all knew that, right?
I think we’ve been over this before, but what the hell… let’s do it again. For a lot of folks, Mitch is already dead. Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? We all remember when the Bears traded up ONE SPOT to get our franchise QB. THIS IS NOT MITCH’S FAULT. I was pissed too, but I wouldn’t BOO him at a Bulls game for example. Just like with Seabrook; it’s not HIS fault he got a huge deal. It wasn’t Trubisky’s fault the Bears did a dumb ass move on draft day; I remember it well… I was pissed off… at the Bears. The fact that the Bears did this already put Mitch on the clock if you may. I hoped for the best.
Year 1 was hardly a year. It was Mike Glennon time remember? Good God… talk about a fricking waste. Trubisky should have been playing since the get go. He got in eventually, and did OK, but whatever. It was for John Fox; Bears were going nowhere. Glad he got his feet wet. Year 2 was the big year. He played well; the Bears did well. He wasn’t spectacular, but he did enough. The double doink prematurely ended what could have been a truly memorable season. Then came Year 3… it sucked, all the way around. Mitch started like crap, he got hurt, he came back and played like crap in general, except for a few games against bad teams. Everybody wants Mitch gone. That was quick.

No. We’re QB starved, period. We thought we had a franchise QB in Cutler; nope. We thought we drafted our franchise QB in Trubisky; TBD? He certainly didn’t look the part last year; does that rule it out?
I think he deserves another chance… a guarded chance at that; this is the whole reason for Foles. We cannot afford to throw another year away at that position at this time with this defense. I’d love for Mitch to come out and play lights out. I’m still in his corner; I’ll be in his corner for as long as he is a Bear. I’m in Nick Foles’ corner too. So if Mitch doesn’t play well, I hope Nick kicks ass. It’s not that hard to understand. It comes down to one thing; wanting the Bears to win. If Mitch can help us do that, more power to him; if not, then bring in somebody who can, such as Nick Foles. If neither can help us, then we’re screwed…
But absolutely no reason to pickup the 5th year option. If Mitch plays well this year, the Bears can sign him to a new contract. If he doesn’t play well, he walks, and we have Foles and a draft pick (?) for the 2021 season. I’m just hoping we get to find out and the NFL isn’t interrupted with this COVID stuff… I’m already missing the Cubs badly. OK, back to The Last Dance…
