The stage was set for history repeating itself for Boston. Almost 19 years after the Boston Red Sox came back and defeated the New York Yankees in the ALCS, which preceded the breaking of the Curse of the Bambino and a World Series title, the Celtics had their shot. They were trying to do something that had never been done in the NBA. They came back from down 3-0 to tie the series, and set a date with history on Monday night in Boston for Game 7. It all sounded so good, until the game actually started. Yeah, the Heat kicked the shit out of the Celtics; no history for you Boston!!!
Let’s just be honest: the better team won. The Celtics had been F-ing around all playoffs. Letting the Hawks win games they had no business winning; playing around with the Sixers in 7 games. And now, losing to the 8th seed Miami Heat!!! Maybe the Celtics just weren’t as good as they were hyped up to be. Yeah, Tatum hurt his ankle on the first play of Game 7, and sure, that had some impact, but… when you live by the 3… you die by the 3. The Boston Celtics were a perfect example of that. To see both Boston teams get beaten by 8 seeds… the historic regular season Bruins team and NBA title favorites the Celtics… man, shedding a big teardrop for Beantown, let me tell you.
So the Celtics won’t win their 18th this year?!?! Boo F-ing hoo. If I had my way, the Celtics or Lakers wouldn’t sniff another one the rest of my life. 17 for each of them is more than enough, OK? But most likely, that will not be the case. Even the Warriors with their 7; no more please. It’s the team that’s 4th on the list with 6 titles that needs to get their ass in gear and add some hardware; no title in sight there… ugh! Speaking of 4th on the list, the Bruins will be fine; they have 6 Cups, tied with the Blackhawks on that list. At least the Blackhawks have some light now; how many will Bedard raise for us?!?! It’s going to have to be a lot to catch Detroit with 11 or Toronto with 13; I think Montreal and their 23 Cups are safe for now. 23 Stanley Cups?!?! WTF!
The Miami Heat though… they took it to Boston in this Game 7; it was never really in question. I thought for sure the Celtics would make a run, but it never came. Jaylen Brown… woof! I know I said I would rather have him than Zach Lavine, and that may still be true, but… I’ll pass; please do NOT get this guy on the Bulls… please. The Celtics have their scapegoat; yeah, their coach will be fired soon, and a new one will be brought in; good luck. Meanwhile, the Spoelstra… wow; nice job man. And the guy in their front office… Pat Riley… may have heard of him. Not too shabby. Saw something that this will be his 19th Finals appearance as a player/coach/executive combined; respect due. Mostly respect due because he retired Jordan’s 23 for the Heat, setting an example that the rest of the NBA should follow… haha. But yeah, Pat and Eric… and Jimmy… nice combo. Since the Butler-Lavine trade, it’s 2 NBA Finals appearances for Jimmy, and 0 for the Bulls… nice.
So the Nuggets are going to kick their ass, eh? I think that’s what everybody is thinking, but if the Heat have taught us anything thus far this postseason… yeah, that little balance I have in my Draft Kings account… already 2 bets on the Heat Thursday night, +7.5 & +8.5…. maybe I’ll grow a pair and put a little on the ML too. I think the Heat steal Game 1, and maybe even the series… excited to watch an NBA Finals where I really don’t care who wins. The Nuggets first ever title would be sweet; seeing Jimmy win would be sweet too… maybe bittersweet, but I’d be happy for him. Until Thursday night…
