Imagine being able to play a professional sport with your son, or vice versa, with your father. Yes, a father and son combo playing together is pretty cool. We have seen this before. I think of Ken Griffey and his son. How awesome was it to see them play on the field together. If I was a professional athlete, I’d only have to last a few more years to play with my son… haha. Not quite on the same level, I like when both of us are on the same team… whether it’s real-life sports or video games, or whatever; it’s cool to play together with your son. Now most of the time, I just watch him play, and root him on, but when I do get to play along side him, it’s great. So, I get it… I get what LeBron is trying to do here with his son Bronny; it’s a very cool thought. Yet, like anything LeBron, it seems forced, orchestrated, selfish… daddy pulling the strings to make this dream happen. It will be cool when it does happen, but will it be worth it?
LeBron, love him or hate him, and you know where I sit, has already turned in a great career; he’s at the twilight, ready to sail off into the ownership world with an NBA team in Vegas. He may not have many years left, so I get the need to try to rush this, but… is Bronny ready? I think the obvious answer is NO. He couldn’t even start on his college team. When he did play, he did just OK. And yet, he is being discussed as a top draft prospect? Everybody sees how much bullshit this is right? With all these other kids deciding to forego the draft, and head back to college, Bronny stays put (per papa’s orders I’m sure), willing to try out for Phoenix and the Lakers, one of which will be LeBron’s team next year. It’s borderline crazy, and sad at the same time.
Who’s to say Bronny couldn’t be a good pro? Sure, if he had more time in college to work on his game. One year in college on the bench, now straight to the NBA? This wouldn’t work for anyone with a last name other than James. Even MJ’s son… whose numbers were actually better than Bronny’s (go figure) couldn’t even sniff the NBA. Sure, papa and the refs will protect him for a minute, but… man… he’s going to get eaten alive out there. These are grown men, who don’t much care about the whole sentimental side of things, although how soft the NBA is today, who knows. Bronny stays in college, gets better, finally gets to start junior year, and who knows; maybe he would be a solid pro. By rushing him along in order to fulfill papa’s dreams, you’re really screwing him.
Hey, who knows what else is happening behind the scenes with this; he did have a health scare early last year… that was horrible. Hopefully through it all, the kid stays healthy. From the outside looking in though, this just looks all around bad. LeBron has already made his; his kid though… guessing he’ll be fine regardless, whether or most likely not, this pans out. Good luck kid.
