Here’s the thing about those lists: if they don’t have Michael Jordan as the best overall player of all time and/or if they don’t have him on an all time starting five team, they’re worthless. Everything else is up for debate after that, but you cannot possibly get the biggest, most important part of this exercise wrong and expect people to take it seriously. Obviously, I will not make that same mistake.
Still, it’s a matter of opinion right? Stats are great, but they are not everything. How do you rank players that you have never seen play? What is the most important part of being on an all time team? These are going to all be things I try to deal with as I work through this. Also, I think I want to do an entire roster, which would be 15 players. With that approach, will it simply be the best 15 players of all time regardless of position/role, etc, or will it be putting the best “team” of great players together? I’m leaning towards the latter. OK, let’s get the easy one out of the way.
