Everybody remember him? A Roid… yeah, Alex Rodriguez, one of the game’s signature cheaters, is now Mr. Popular on ESPN. That’s fine. Everybody deserves a second chance. Everybody has to make a living. But when they allowed him to sing the 7th inning stretch at Wrigley on this evening, I’ve got a problem with it.
The first thing that comes to mind is, If A Roid, why not Sammy? Enough is enough here right? Yes, I know it was more than just the roids with Sosa. It was the corked bat, and the one that was the last straw, the walking out on your teammates. And yes, I’m sure his flamboyant personality rubbed folks the wrong way, but… it was also that personality that carried the Cubs.
Anybody who says they didn’t love Sosa during his bashing days is full of crap. I loved Sammy. The home runs, the hop, the bleacher bums bowing to him, the strong arm; he was a legit superstar, and he was ours. I’m assuming there are things that he is being stubborn about, but if he could bring himself to apologize in some capacity, the Cubs should be bringing him back. Let’s cut with the BS already. The Cubs have won a World Series. You have Bonds, McGwire, and ARod still with roles in baseball, why not Sammy? At least some sort of team ambassador? Something.
Anyways, so there’s that, and then we need to see another steroid boy, who struggled in the clutch for a while, and played for a team that we love to hate, come out and sit in the bleachers and sing the stretch? That was messed up, I’m sorry.
Theo… letting an ex-Yankee have this honor? Maybe I’m getting too worked up about it… I don’t know.

When Rodriguez first came back on the scene, and sat in the studio doing pre and post game, I’m not gonna lie… I liked him. Maybe it was because the Cubs ended up winning it all, I don’t know. But he seemed good at it. But in the broadcast booth???
I couldn’t listen to him. Annoying as hell. I really can’t stand the other guy either. The one that is the best out of that team is the woman; Mendoza knows her stuff. But I couldn’t take A-Roid. I was complaining about him the minute I started listening to him… or maybe it was because I knew what he was going to do in the middle of the 7th inning.
I didn’t even watch it; didn’t want to. I heard there were a smattering of boos… maybe more than that, but it didn’t really come out on the broadcast that way. Anyways, there should have been nothing but boos…
So now that we can’t get that minute of our life back, maybe we can end this Sosa crap. Bring back Sammy! and screw A-Roid. Go Cubs!
