I swear it has nothing to do with my fantasy baseball team… OK, maybe it has a little bit to do with my fantasy team, but seriously… I want Almora all the time. Who’s with me?
I’m sick of this platoon stuff. Yeah, yeah.. I know, it’s Joe’s style. And yes, with the Cubs depth, you have to keep a lot of players happy. And yes, I do realize the benefit of mixing and matching lineups so we can be versatile and adjust to any hand dealt our way. Yes, I get all of that. But… there is no one size fits all.
There is only 1 Kris Bryant and 1 Anthony Rizzo; they will almost always be in the lineup. However, if you want to put the best team on the field at all times, there are others who belong in their permanently. Contreras obviously. Baez, hello! After those 2 guys, I’m saying Almora. Yeah, Almora!
Who next? Russell? I’m sorry, I’m already thinking he should be an Oriole and Baez should be playing SS. But yes, he’s still here and he’s an awesome defender, but his hitting hasn’t been there; kind of like that other guy in the OF. Russell and Heyward should not be givens in this lineup. Joe has already made that change for Heyward; when will we see it for Russell?
Schwarber maybe. I’ll give you that one. I think he deserves to be our everyday LF. He’s been a lot better this year at the dish. And although he’s not the swiftest with the glove, he’s serviceable… and he has a pretty nice arm too. So pencil him in left field every game. So that’s 5 guys. And that means Almora is next.

Almora should be in CF and leading off every single game from here on out. I don’t care who’s on the mound. Yeah, I get everybody needs a rest; that’s fine. Give him off a game a month, but every other game, he should be in there.
This guy’s defense is absolutely sick, and unlike Heyward and Russell, the kid can rake too. Are his numbers against righties worse than his numbers against lefties? Sure. Does that mean he shouldn’t play against righties? Plus his baserunning… he’s not the speediest, but he’s heady. I’ve already preached this right?
But for Almora, an up and coming young player… I guess I could say that about a lot of the Cubs… needs some consistency. And if that can be applied to Almora, why not these other young guys? You don’t think by settling these guys into their roles the offense would improve?
I saw this stat the other day courtesy of @ckamka. Games Almora starts: 18-10. Game Almora plays, but doesn’t start: 7-6. Games Almora doesn’t play: 0-5. Any questions?
Love Joe, but I think he needs to make some adjustments to his managing style to better fit this team. That’s just one lowly opinion, but that’s why I write this here thing. Listen to me Joe, and Go Cubs!
