May 26, 2015: Hold On Tight

I always describe the die hard fan experience as a roller coaster ride.  The ups and downs that come along with this committment isn’t for the faint of heart.  At times, you will be rewarded… other times, crushed… sometimes just flat out worn out.  This Hawks Ducks 2015 Western Conference Finals series is hitting us from every angle.

3-0 in the first period.  Man did the Ducks come out and take it to us for the first 20.  It probably could have been worse.  They clearly looked like the best team on the ice.  I haven’t had that thought many times over the past 8 years, but are we looking across the ice at the better team?  Well, that has yet to be decided.  For the first third of the game last night, it was clear.

Going down 3-0 didn’t even prompt me to think change Crawford… not this time.  There is no message to be sent here.  There is nobody that needs waking up.  Everybody is full aware of what we’re facing here.  Everybody, as Coach Q commented between periods, has too much committed… everybody is knee deep in it.  It’s an all out war… a battle in the trenches if you may.  The 2 best teams in the NHL are involved in the best series in a while.

They talk about last year being a great series…. vs the Kings.  This one tops it… easily.  I still say the best team lost in that series.  I still say we underestimated them; we could have, and should have beat them.  That is one I feel got away.  This series is better because our opponent is better.  The Ducks are bringing it… they’re giving us all we can handle.  Yet, after the first period, the “other” team woke up…

The 2nd period was more like it.  Teuvo the Terrible… it just sounds good…  got one past Mr. Anderson.  One he should have stopped for sure, but a nice shot to get us on the board.  The rest of the period was controlled by the Hawks with nothing to show for it… I was hoping to pull within one goal, when the puck found Teuvo again… and he found Seabrook… who found the back of the net.  Beautiful play all around.  2nd period Hawks 2 Ducks 0.  Now we have ourselves a game.

The 3rd period was played evenly, and when the Ducks scored late to take a two goal advantage, it looked over… again.  But what do I always say about this Hawks team?  I will never believe they are going to lose until it’s zeroes on the clock… until we lose that 4th game of the series.  They’re just too good.  They’re unbelievable.  And it was none other than the Captain who brought us even with 2 late goals.  One of them was from behind the fricking goalline!!!  It was awesome.  At that point, I thought we had these guys right where we wanted them.  We were headed into OT, where we were unblemished, holding onto all the momentum.  Only if the 3rd period lasted a bit longer…  We had them on the ropes, and the break between the 3rd and OT gave them a breath… and they capitalized.

It didn’t take long, and the Ducks went up 3-2 in the series.  Whew…. what. a. game. Only thing that sucked about this one was the final outcome.  Thankfully, the Hawks will live to fight another day.

The series shifts back to Chicago for Game 6.  I didn’t want to head back to the west coast, but now it’s inevitable if the Hawks are going to win this series.  It’s been a slugfest.  The Hawks need to defend their home ice for a chance in Game 7.  It doesn’t feel good to lose… ever.  Although sometimes, you just have to tip your cap.  Sometimes, it’s NOT your fault.  Sometimes the other team is just better.  I’m not ready to say that yet.  Again, I never will admit that until it’s official.  There are 2 games left in this series, and I firmly believe we’ll be playing both of them.  Will the Mighty Hawks prevail against the once Mighty Ducks?  Hold on tight folks…

Another awesome game but this time a loss. What a comeback with 2 late goals by the Captain with crow pulled! Only problem is that the Hawks keep digging holes for themselves. If they play another flat period like that, they may be headed for vacation. At this point, play every period, minute, and shift like it may be your last one. I am still confident. The Hawks can win game 6 at the uc and beat the ducks at home. We did it in game 2 and came close last night. This team just won’t die, and I refuse to believe they will not win until they are out. The Hawks are champions and play with the heart of one. Do not count this team out. Game 6 at home with a potential game 7 to decide this amazing series. I believe Hawks! We believe. Just do it!
    GO HAWKS!!!

If Bickel just executes the basic dump in properly, you might be writing a happier ending. Hate losing on an unearned goal after such a great game. Damn!

i blame last nite’s loss on the D (yes, ALL of them), or lack thereof. they just seem like they’re still clueless on how to clear the puck out of our zone. and i think that Q is partially to blame there also. we’re 5 games into the series with the same opponent, and we still do the same things that didn’t work in the 1st 4 games! what’s worse, is that we’re allowing the ducks to do the same things that gets them shots on net almost everytime in our end!! i’m not giving up, and not calling it over, but i believe somethings need to change to get us past this team.
