When the Cubs made their transactions earlier this week, one of them was to send PCA back down to the minors. Yes, Pete Crowe-Armstrong was heading back to AAA; why though?
I get the company line… “we need to get him some regular ABs”. There is some truth to this statement, sure. But… how many more ABs does he need in AAA? He needs ABs in the majors!!! Yes, the kid hasn’t been lights out when he was up, but he’s shown some flash… he’s fast as hell number one, leading him to make some pretty nice catches in CF and helping him scoot around those bases when he does get on. Secondly, who else we got? Do we want to keep running Happ out there everyday? I’ve never been a huge fan of Ian. He’s had some good runs; he plays really well in Pittsburgh, I know that… haha. He won a gold glove, somehow. Not sure I would have ever guessed that. Seiya is so-so. Belli can play first no? Tauchman? Love the guy, but… come on. The starting CF of the Cubs from this point forward should be PCA, period.
Meanwhile, down in the minors, PCA gave us another reason to love him. Wily Peralta… guess he’s bouncing back and forth from the majors to the minors too, was facing him the other night. He threw at him… twice! After the second time, the manager came out and argued; he got tossed. The umpire issued warnings. Then, PCA stepped back in the box and hit the ball out of the park, with a beautiful bat flip to boot; take that Wily! From his time up in the bigs, he brings energy and fun into the dugout too. I know that’s not everything, but it’s something… along with his A+ speed and fielding. Get him more major league at bats please! It’s not like our current OF is tearing the cover off the ball; what are we waiting for???
The Cubs are frustrating the hell out of me. We’re managing the team like we’re a mom and pop store, honestly. Nothing against those stores… I love them, but come on now… We’re the F-ing Chicago Cubs not some small market team giving away free tickets to their games at Subway… wink wink Milwaukee. We have just as much money to spend on players as the “big boys” do, but… we choose not to. That pisses me off, but now that we’re here, and the guys on our offense currently aren’t doing all that great, give our young prospects… all these prospects that we have… such a good pipeline… what a great minor league system… a chance to play. The time is now. It starts with PCA, but it certainly does not end with him.
The Cubs have been taking it on the chin lately; we need a spark. The team as it stands is NOT good enough to win it all; that’s just the reality. I want to believe too; I know they’ll make a run at some point. But honestly, we can’t keep up with the better teams, so… let the young guys play… let’s see what we got. Let’s see where we need to spend more money next offseason, maybe add the deadline again? I did like that last year. I feel like this Cubs season will be a carbon copy of last year at this point; I hope I’m wrong. It was a good, fun, surprising year… until it wasn’t. We need to get back to that next level… a perennial playoff team. Oh yeah, we had that, and it wasn’t good enough… don’t get me started on that. Go Cubs!
