First Sale, now Jake. Sale got battered around by the Tribe, while the Cards touched up Jake. I guess these guys are human after all.
The difference in both of these rare events, was that the Cubs were able to pick their ace up… and outscore the Cards to win the rubber game and the series against the hated RedTurds. That was just what the doctor ordered.
We just got done discussing the Sox fall from grace; the Cubs have been coasting back to earth as well. No more of those best starts since 1907 stats. No more of those historic run differential comparisons. Still the first MLB team to 30, and still the best team in baseball through almost 2 months is what the Cubs will have to settle for. I guess they are human after all too.
But come on, let’s be honest. The Cubs were not going to win 130 games. Although that’s what they were on pace for, that’s just not possible. After their recent slump, they are now only projected to win 109… boo hoo.
It’s no time to panic Cubs fans. Please. I hear some of the talk on sports radio, and the craziness… Yes, I understand we are starved, and we’ve been drooling these first 6 weeks of the season, but let’s tone it down a notch. We still have an awesome team. The Cubs are not going anywhere. They will be near or at the top of baseball all year long. I think they definitely have staying power, although there are teams that will not be going away. We’ve talked about this. The Pirates are only 4.5 games back… but we own those bitches. The Cards are 8.5 games back… but we own those bitches too. It was great to pull out that series in St. Louis, especially after how we lost the first one.

One bad pitch by Lackey to Adams, and then a walkoff HR 2 innings later, led to a Cardinals win, and some feel good times for those flakes. That didn’t last long. The first inning of the next ball game, the Cubs brought out the gun show, and pummeled Wacha for 6 runs. Game, set, match. Game 3 was looking like that too… for a bit.
Although the Cards hit Jake early, we struck back… and when Bryant went bye bye with the 3 run bomb, the game was in the bag… right? Wrong. The Cardinals fought back, and pulled within 1 run. They even put the first 2 men on base in the 9th, trying to tie and/or win the game. But Rondon came through, and the Cubs prevailed. But just another lesson here…. we’re not the only team who won’t quit. There are other quality teams out there that will fight to the end. Unfortunately, this has been a trait for those St. Louis boys for a while… especially against us.
Still, it was nice to take another series against them…. I think that’s a handful of series in a row, including the postseason. I like throwing that in there. Plenty of more good baseball to come… nobody said it would be easy.
Back home to face the surprising Phillies this weekend, and the goal should be to win another series. Lester looks to rebound from his worst performance of the season in the series opener on Friday. Let’s get that first W and head into the weekend. Let’s keep this thing going the right direction. Let’s keep flexing our muscles, showing the baseball world who is boss.
Yeah, big words from this Cubs fan, but how often have we been in this spot? Not many times, if any. It’s great to be where we are now, towards the end of May, but I know… I know it only counts about 5 months from now. Trust me, I know. Still, i will enjoy every minute of this season until there is no more. I love baseball, and I love my Cubs. Let’s keep stacking those Ws. Go Cubs!

Jake was not jake but still got the W. The Cubs flexed their offensive muscle and took 2of3 from the redturds. There is a new sheriff in the NL central…move over bucs and turds, the Cubs are here to stay!
