It’s made for sports TV and radio; it’s perfect for us fans. The list of course; the top 100 Bears list that everyone has been talking about. The 100th anniversary of the Bears which coincides with the NFLs 100th anniversary was kicked off with the top 100 Bears players of all time. It’ll be in a book; that’d be great to get for Fathers Day or my birthday, in case anyone feeling generous is reading. Part of this book is this list. Let’s take a peek.
They released it 25 at a time, which meant 100-76 first; the notable member of that group was Jay Cutler at 85. Well, he ain’t that notable to be clear, but he was the most talked about, as he was during his tenure. Does he own most of the Bears QB records? Yes, wasn’t that hard to do. In a pass happy era, he broke a lot of team records; good for him. What was his record with us? 500. How many playoff wins? 1. He had some pretty good defenses, at least at the start; yet, we couldn’t win a damn thing. How many pro bowls with us? 0. A lot of people wanted him higher…I agree with those that said he shouldn’t have even made the cut. Yet, I’m fine with the ranking.
This wasn’t easy. Picking all these guys over 100 years of football. I’m sure many people weren’t happy with it, especially since a lot of these guys we didn’t even see play. Yeah, if you didn’t know, the Bears were pretty fricking good back in the day. That’s why even though we’ve only won 1 Super Bowl, were 2nd in NFL history with 9 championships. To win all those titles, had to have some pretty good players. Doesn’t winning titles count for anything? Those players should be recognized for that. You have to know your Bears history to really do a good job here. And the two guys that did it…hall of fame writers. Don Pierson and one of my all time favorites, still to this day, Dan Pompeii. Have to trust these guys. They did the best they could. You can’t mess up #1.

I have no problem with #2 Butkus. I have both of heir jerseys by the way. My other jersey came in at 14; many said Urlacher was rated too low…yet, he was ranked right ahead of Samurai Mike… Lots of 85 Bears in the list too; the greatest single season team in NFL history deserves it. And if you’re tired of hearing about them, either you didn’t see them play week in week out, or you’re just a hater. The Bears also have the most HOFers in the NFL, so yeah, all those guys had to make the list right?
Very tough job indeed. I’m sure there will be others, made by people who think they can do it better. Maybe you’ll see list of top 100 players that you’ve seen play in your lifetime; that’s fine. But I’ll roll with this unofficial 100; sure, could flip flop guys, take some away, add others, but overall, good job. I’d take our franchise’s guys over any other… all day long. Can’t wait to start adding more members; how many days until the season begins? Bear Down!!!
