May 24, 2016: That Was Quick

posted in: White Sox | 1

White Sox fans… be happy… I’m dedicating another blog to your team.  The problem is, it ain’t good news.  The Sox have lost 11 of their last 15 games, and now hold the slimmest of leads in the AL central… that was quick.

Sale had been carrying the load.  9-0 in his first 9 games.  It was bound to come to an end eventually, and no, I don’t think there is anything to worry about there.  His quest for a perfect 10 was spoiled by Cleveland, that team that now sits just 0.5 games behind the Sox.  And they’re not alone.  KC is 2 games out, and Detroit is 3 games out.  The Sox slide has welcomed every team not named the Twins back in the AL Central race.  With still a couple days left in May, first place may be history.

Easy for me to say now, but I didn’t think it would last.  I just didn’t want to be negative… since I’m a Cubs fan and all.  I wanted the Sox fans to enjoy their early season run.  It was a valiant quest to try to keep up with the Cubs for the best record in the majors.  Although I knew it wouldn’t last, that’s not to say I think the Sox are done done.  Yes, they’ve been in tank mode, but I still think they’ll be OK over the long haul.  I still think they’ll be in the middle of the race for a playoff spot a few months from now.  I could be wrong, but with that strong start… the one the Sox are not used to, I think that will help them in the long haul.  Once they get through this recent slump, they’ll balance out.  Don’t jump out the window yet.

It would be nice if that balancing out started this weekend, where they head to Kansas City for 4 games.  They didn’t lose Thursday night… that’s the good news, although the reason for that was Mother Nature led to a PPD game.  There’s no reason they can’t win that series, although they had their chance at the Cell vs both the Royals and Indians and came up short.  Maybe a road trip is just what this team needs right about now.

Get on the road, and spend some time bonding.  Yes, I know you don’t have Adam and team leader Drake in the clubhouse to help facilitate that, but there’s still a ton of character on this team.  The newly acquired psycho Brett Lawrie and the Todd-Father have helped this White Sox bunch get some personality.  They sure don’t get much of that from their manager.  But I don’t want to start talking bad about the Sox… I’ll save that for the Crosstown Series.

I still believe they have a solid team.  With Sale and Quintana, there ain’t much better 1-2 punches in all of baseball.  Rodon should be fine…. but we’ve already said all this.  We’ve also said that the 4-5 slots are where the adventures begin, although it’s been the lack of offense that has hurt this squad.  That seems to be going around lately…

The Sox aren’t alone on their way back down to earth, although the Cubs fall has been a lot less dramatic.  We knew that couldn’t last either, right?  Well, let’s take a look at that next, but before we go, let’s give a cheer for those Sox.  Although a Cross Town World Series may bring Chicago down in flames, it would be one of the most memorable events in our lifetimes.  I’d love to see it.  Stay focused, get your balance back, and start winning some series.  Let’s keep Chicago at the top of the baseball world, in both leagues.  That has been fun…. I don’t want that to end just yet.

The sox slide was bound to happen, just like it may with the Cubs at some point, although I sure hope not, but better during the regular season than playoffa. It is how they manage the slides and bounceback that will determine how the year will finish. The sox look to be in a dogfight all summer. Will they end up being the top dog, we shall see, but with an ace like sale, I like their chances.
