May 23, 2016: Don’t Forget

posted in: Bears | 2

A couple days ago, we just talked about the Bulls and Blackhawks, and how that empty UC doesn’t seem right.  We know what we have going in Chicago baseball, and I’m all over that.  But, don’t forget… there is a football team in this town; that town that most say will always be a football town first… partially because we’re split on baseball, but still.  It’s always football season, so here’s a quick blurb.

Let’s talk 2016 schedule… the 2nd easiest schedule in the NFL per last year’s numbers.  The easiest schedule belongs to Green Bay… that’s a bunch of crap, but we’re the owners of the next easiest.  Although I think that’s a bit deceiving, since out of any league, the NFL is all over the place; although there are always that group of solid teams, the rest of the league is anybody’s guess from one year to the next.  All these preseason predictions, all these NFL experts, all look foolish; it’s my turn.

Another thing to note about the 2016 schedule is that the Bears are on national TV 4 times in the first 8 weeks… and 0 times in the last 8 weeks.  That’s really, really smart NFL.  Knowing the Bears, they’ll start off great and then flop.  But even if they start off great, and stay great, the NFL has it covered with the flex games.  Nice move Goodell.  Although if the Bears start off like crap…

But that’s not going to happen.  I’m going to be positive.  Even the QB killer himself can’t stop the positive vibes… easy call is, we’ll be better than last year.  Well, that was the same thing we said last year.  That was true then, so let’s make it true now.  Let’s keep that upward tick going.

Starting the season in Houston might not be as much of a guaranteed win as one thinks.  With their new QB, the one Peyton trained for a number of years, can’t think of his name right now… yeah, but him… he’ll make it interesting, but I’m going to pencil in that W in week 1 anyways.  Then we come home to face the Eagles; that has to be a win, right?  Right.

OK, so 2-0, and heading to Dallas to watch Elliot run around in his belly shirt; will Romo still be upright in week 3?  Give me a win dammit.  With a win the following week at home against the Lions…hahahha… I have to laugh just because they are the Lions, the Bears will start 4-0.  Yep, you heard it here first.

We’ll alternate wins and losses until the bye week.  Losing at Indy, winning at home vs the Jags, losing at Green Bay, and beating the Vikes at home.  6-2 going into the bye…  now it’s time to flop.  Well, let’s hope not.

Even .500 football the rest of the way out gives us 10-6.  That has to be good enough to get in the playoffs, right?  Maybe not.  OK, let’s see.

At Tampa, win.  At NYG, loss.  Home vs Titans, win.  Home vs Niners, win.  At DET, loss… yeah, every dog has its day.  Home vs GB, win… yeah, damn right.  Home vs the Skins, win.  At MIN, loss.  OK, so that’s 5-3 after the bye, and an 11-5 record.  THAT has to be enough, right.

Yes, so I’m talking playoffs.  I’m thinking playoffs.  2016 should be playoffs or bust.  In the 2nd year of the Fox/Pace regime, and with all the offseason moves so far, and with the schedule, there is no reason why we shouldn’t expect this.  Yes, there is Cutler… but come on… Come on Jay, you owe us man.  You owe it to yourself.  Lead that offense… the defense will be better… easy schedule… the stars are aligning.

I’ll stop there.  After all, it’s still almost 4 months until that opening week.  We’ll have plenty more to talk about between now and then.  But for now, put me on record with that 11-5 record.  Homer?  You know this.  There ain’t no changing that.  Bear Down!

Not going to predict game by game yet, but the Bears should continue to make strides, and with a favorable schedule possibly, who knows! Yes, all the nfl predictions are the same…pats, pitt, carolina, gb…blah blah blah. Every year is different. Stay healthy, come together, play hard, and find ways to win close games…something the Bears could not do last year and need to this year. Either way, I will be ready to watch and cheer them on…BEAR DOWN!!!
