May 22, 2023: Sweep Dreams

Well, well, well… The Nuggets actually completed the sweep of the Lakers last night; I wonder what the odds of a Nuggets sweep were before the series started… I’m sure that would have been sweet. Anyhoo… after it was official, I had nothing but sweep dreams last night…

Time to bang on Lebron; Lebron haters unite! Haha… I’m kind of torn on it actually. I see a lot of stuff out there already. I see people talking about his legacy; I ask what legacy? I see people talking about how this impacts the GOAT debate; I say what debate? I see people talking about how embarrassing it was to get swept; Jordan got swept twice in the playoffs by the mighty Celtics back in the day btw. Does this close the case for the GOAT argument? I say, it was never opened. For all those people who want to put LBJ on that pedestal, who want to believe he should be in that conversation, it’s a tough day; you’ll be OK. Lebron is a first ballot HOFer; he has won plenty of times. He will be considered one of the greatest X number of players in NBA history. He doesn’t have to do anything else to prove that. He is who he is, and that is a really great player. And he is NOT retiring; don’t worry about that either. It’s OK Lebron fans…

You see, I could have went another direction with this… actually, a number of other directions. I’m just thinking of the last few plays of the game, you know, in clutch time. The shot off the side of the backboard by LBJ was most impressive. The last shot where he got tied up by a point guard, and then blocked, was thrilling; I’m shocked a foul wasn’t called. The one that I can’t get over though, was the pass to Schroder; how shocked was he, catching that pass, and flipping it to the next guy like a hot potato. LBJ was matched up 1 one 1 with Jokic; the court was spread. No double, triple team coming. This was the moment for LBJ to show how great he was. He backed up, like he was ready to make his move, but instead casually flipped it to a guarded Schroder. Moments like this, and there are many of them, make me shake my head; to think, there are people who consider him the GOAT. Shocking move from the guy who “played every minute” and “carried this team”; yes, I’m sure he was super tired. Running off the court with a few seconds left in the first half; “camera follow me”… just like in the huddle when he’s about to say something “make sure the camera is on me”… Built in excuses I say; his stats were impressive… he did everything HE could do… his teammates are to blame, 100%… What else do you want a 50 year old player to do? Well, how about take the shot when it matters? The Lakers lack of a closer was what eventually sunk them. AD is a great player no doubt, but he’s not a closer like Wade in Miami or Kyrie in Cleveland. Lebron has never been a closer…

But yeah, he is a great player; let’s get back to that. Let’s praise him this moment, after seeing his team get their asses handed to them by the Nuggets. Bravo Denver btw… 1st ever NBA Finals appearance. Nuggets-Heat was the Finals matchup everyone was looking forward to; actually, it should be a really good series. I hope Denver wins it, but wouldn’t mind seeing Buckets get one; they have to finish off the Celtics first, which shouldn’t be a problem, considering they’ve already quit… the most talented team in the NBA has found their scapegoat in the form of their inexperienced coach; they’re good. So yeah, the Miami Heat will make it back to the NBA finals for the first time since LBJ and the big 3 won, what was it… 6, 7 rings? Yeah, props to their coach; he’s legit. And Jimmy… yeah, making this Bulls fan remember one of the worst trades in franchise history. I know I’m going to enjoy the Finals. Ding dong, LBJ and the Lakers are dead… I’m smiling.
