May 20, 2024: The WOAT

There’s always talk about “the GOAT”… Of course to me, it’s stupid talk. It’s MJ and MJ alone on his own tier. You want to argue about the 2nd best player of all time, you want to talk about top 10, top 20, top 50, 75… whatever… have at it. But #1 is taken. Anyways, we’re not here to say how stupid those people are who don’t agree with this… we’re here to talk about the complete opposite of the GOAT… What about the WOAT???

Yes, the worst player of all time; now there’s a conversation to be had. There have to be 1000s of candidates for this title. Think about that last guy on the bench, who barely made the NBA. Sure, he’d kick our ass in a one-on-one battle, but compared to the rest of the NBA talent… they suck. Hey, I’ll suck and collect a half-million dollar paycheck; don’t mind if I do. There is no way to pick one guy, but we can try.

For starters, I can’t go over every teams’ bench from my lifetime; yes, I can pull up basketball reference and sort by some stats and figure out those guys who were bad… really bad. But the easiest path to finding some WOAT candidates would be to start in my own backyard. Yes, let’s talk some bad Chicago Bulls players.

The whole reason I thought about this was a hilarious Twitter post I saw from @DieHardCBfans. It said “WOAT” and had the picture of Zach Lavine. It went on to say “Zach Lavine has the lowest win percentage (.372) by an active NBA player with at least 500 game played.” I said hilarious, and it was… because I laughed my ass off, but… it’s kind of sad too. He is still on our team! We traded Jimmy Butler for THIS guy! He’s making the NBA maximum contract per year of about $40M. Brutal, but… let’s not get crazy. Obviously Zach is not the worst of all time. He’s not a superstar, but he’s not a bad player.

Who IS a bad player? Well, the one guy that comes to my mind is Cristiano Felicio. Remember him? If you don’t remember him, good for you. This dude… It’s funny. In one of the many conversations with my son before he falls asleep, we once looked this up for the heck of it. I typed in “who is the worst NBA player of all time?”. Guess what? Cristiano Felicio’s name came up… Not sure how that exactly works, but… it was very funny.

There have been a lot of bad players; impossible to find the worst… not going to spend a lot of energy picking & justifying just one. For now, it’s Cristiano Felicio, who back in 2016, signed a 4 year extension with the Bulls for a guaranteed $32 million dollars!!! For sure this has to be one of the worst contracts of all time, but man, let me be the worst at something and get paid $32 million… please!!!
