May 20, 2023: Disbelief

I’m still kind of in disbelief; the Lakers are down 3-0 after losing to the Nuggets on Saturday night in LA. It’s not a bad disbelief; I’m actually thrilled with the results of the series thus far. Still, I thought Silver and his refs would be doing more about this craziness; LeBron and the Lakers who have sucked all year losing in the Conference Finals? Say it ain’t so NBA…

The good news for the Lakers is that LeBron finally made a couple 3 pointers; the bad news is that he missed about 20 of them already in the series. You can’t get the refs to help those go in? Amazing that something can’t be done about that in this day and age… disappointing. Let’s just be honest though: Anthony Davis is really the only good player on the Lakers, and even he is up and down. The Lakers making it this far has been a farce, beating up on Memphis without 2 of their good players, and taking down a Warriors team who apparently has reached the end of the road themselves, at least with the current roster. Now, they’re facing a real team, a healthy team, and the results thus far make a whole lot of sense; I’m just surprised that the NBA is letting this sensible thing happen. The only reason for this is because there were probably a shitload of people betting on the Lakers and Papa Vegas said “OK, that’s enough of this BS”… cashing in on all those sucker bets. But hey, it ain’t over yet… Maybe this has all been done preparing to orchestrate history, helping bring a team back from a 3-0 deficit? I’m not putting anything past the NBA; Monday night will hopefully be the official end to the Lakers season. Then I can relax… with the most hated player and team out of contention.

Who wants to see the Nuggets on the big stage anyways? Well, I’d like to. I think they are a good team, lead by 2 great players in Joker and Murray. To see a team win their first NBA title in history would be really cool. I think about all the Nuggets over time… Alex English comes to mind, also Chris Jackson aka Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, and Dikembe Mutombo’s 8 seed team that beat the Sonics in the first round. Then there’s Carmelo Anthony; I liked him in his Nuggets’ days, the team that drafted him right out of Syracuse. They have made it to the Conference Finals 4 different times in franchise history, losing once to the Supersonics, and the other 3 times to… you guessed it: the Lakers. Guess this would be a little payback huh?

Yeah, I’m here for it. The only disappointing thing about this would be the fact that LeBron wouldn’t lose again in the Finals, where he holds the record for most games lost at 33. I think I’ll be OK… really. Go Nuggets!
