Leave the parking lot. Turn onto Wells. Jump on the Eisenhower. Get off on Damen. Head north. That’s the typical first 5 steps of my drive home Monday through Friday. And as I drive north down Damen and pass the UC on my right side, I think WOW.. I can’t believe there’s nobody playing at the UC.
Yes, I know… there are plenty of artists playing there… lots of concerts, etc, but no Bulls or Blackhawks. Sad. It’s Conference Finals time and we’ve been shutout.
I think it would be unanimous that we would be more surprised about the Blackhawks not being there, but the Bulls are equally as disappointing..if not as surprising as the Hawks. Take a look at the 2 teams in the Eastern Conference Finals, and tell me the Bulls record against them this year. I’m pretty sure it’s 5-1. What gives? Well, we don’t want to go through the rubbage that was the 2015-2016 Chicago Bulls season, but if they had made the playoffs, IF they had got in, why couldn’t they have got to this point? We own Toronto. Miami would have been tough… yeah, maybe we wouldn’t have got past them. But outside of them, well, I’m kind of talking myself out of this argument, since this past year’s Bulls team could lose to anybody at any time, and THAT’S why they didn’t make the cut. Either way, a ECF meeting with Cleveland would have been the same result as the previous years. At the end of the day, we still would have been unable to beat LBJ when it counts. And that’s the bottom line.

Looking at the final four, I’d take the Hawks over all of them. Oh wait, except the Blues I guess… since they already beat us. That was an awesome series. Not sure if the NHL needs to take a look at the seeding process, but putting the Hawks against the Blues this year in the first round didn’t seem right. My bet is that the winner of the Sharks Blues will take it all. I think the Blues beat the Sharks, and take the whole thing… and I’d be OK with that. I’d be OK with the Sharks winning it all too. The Western Conference is way stronger than the East; kind of the same thing in the NBA. Getting through that side of the brackets is like navigating a minefield, and the Hawks tripped one on the first rip. The East is weak, as the world beating Capitals find themselves on the outside looking in again. I’d take the Blues, Sharks, Ducks, Preds, Kings, and yes, the Hawks over any of those Eastern teams. Just my take.
The Bulls did poke their head up again this week, at the NBA draft lottery. So much for tanking, missing the playoffs for a chance at a top pick. No such luck this year… the Bulls ended with 14, and it’s anybody’s guess who we will take. Maybe a trade? Package that pick with a player or two and get somebody we really want… unless we think we’ll get somebody we really like at 14.
Back to baseball now… although at some point, we need to bring up those Bears again. For now, let’s enjoy our first place teams, and get out and see them! Head to Wrigley… head to the Cell… let’s not worry about that dormant UC, and let’s make those places hopping. Remember the UC, but let’s live in the moment. Baseball season is just getting rolling.

No Blackhawks, no Bulls…no good!
Yes, Chicago baseball is great right now, but something definitely does not feel right with the UC so quiet. The Blackhawks could beat anyone left, but they are not in it. The Bulls own the raps but could not even make the dance. Think a lightning/sharks final followed by gsw/cle, although a raps/okc finals would make me the happiest! Oh well, enjoy the offseason and come back stronger next year…meanwhile, GO CUBS GO!!!
