May 18, 2024: In Conclusion

In the third entry for the 2024 Chicago Bears season preview, we look at the final 6 weeks of the regular season. Remember, we’re 7-4 right now… about to hit the gauntlet. Here we go:

Week 13 at Lions: LOSS 31-21

The early game on Thanksgiving day features the top 2 teams of the division meeting for the first time this year; this time it’s on Detroit’s home turf. This time, we take the L. We should have beat Detroit 2x last year, but I should have also not bet on the 49ers heavy in the Super Bowl. Yeah, the only thing that counts is what’s recorded in the standings, and after this Turkey Day, the Bears get their 5th loss.

Week 14 at 49ers: LOSS 27-17

I told you about that gauntlet. It doesn’t any easier heading West to play those 49ers that cost me a pretty penny last year. Their defense controlled the game, and the Bears are experiencing their first 3 game losing streak of the season, at quite possibly, the worst time. At 7-6 the division appears out of reach, and now, the playoffs are in jeopardy, with a whole shit load of teams “in the hunt”…

Week 15 at Vikings: WIN 31-14

Ah… we can take a breath finally. We get some revenge on the Vikes, and more important, a much needed W… on the road… in the division… to get back on the winning side of the ledger. The 3 game losing streak is over; time to start a winning streak???

Week 16 vs Lions: LOSS 19-16

Can’t get our revenge against the Lions, and can’t build a winning streak. The division will not be ours, but at 8-7 the playoffs are still in reach. How will the Bears finish this 2024 season?

Week 17 vs Seahawks: WIN 26-22

Our last home game of the season brings our 9th win. At 9-7, the Bears control their playoff destiny. All they have to do is win in the final week of the season… in Lambeau… buckle up people.

Week 18 at Packers: WIN 17-10

Would you rather play meaningless games at this time of year, with no pressure, or would you rather feel stressed as hell, playing a game with a whole lot at stake? I’ve experienced too much of that first option; it’s time to play some meaningful games late in the season. With this win, the Bears guarantee at least one more meaningful game in the first round of the playoffs. Not too shabby for the first regular season with Caleb.

10-7… you good with that? I’d be very happy, and even happier if this record comes with a playoff appearance. Let’s not get crazy and talk Super Bowl… yet… although if you continue to read me throughout the season, I’m sure I’ll get there. But in all seriousness, the Bears window for contention opens up this year; I hope this window stays open a long time. I hope the Bears can cash in on this opportunity with a much needed Super Bowl victory. Remember, anybody younger than 40 years old has not seen the Bears win a Super Bowl. Luckily for me, being older in this case means I have seen it; that doesn’t change the feeling for me. We need another. Will the Bears win a Super Bowl in the next 5 years? If your answer isn’t YES, then you better reconsider your fandom… because the Bears are back baby!!! Ok, I may have said that a few (or more) times over the years, but this time, THIS TIME, I really, really (for real, for real) mean it… haha. It’s fun to talk about; it’s fun to dream. One day, the Bears will make all of our wildest dreams come true. Until then, well, you know… BEAR DOWN!!!
