Watch out below! The Cubs are fading fast. All those warm and fuzzies from the first month of the season are fading away. Cubs crash in progress. Color me shocked.
The Cubs have lost 5 in a row, and 8 of their last 10, bringing them down to 19-24 overall. The finale in Houston was especially painful. Up 6-1 heading to the bottom of the 8th, the game was in the bank… until it wasn’t. Yep, the bullpen collapsed and the Cubs got swept in Houston. This comes after losing the final 2 games in Minnesota by a combined score of 27-4, which was preceded by letting the shit-ass Cardinals beat us in a series at Wrigley. Having fun yet? Are you not entertained?
What did you expect? The Cubs were coming off a 74-88 season. What have we added to that roster? Yes, love the Dansby Swanson move, but after that? Bellinger has been playing better than I expected; maybe he likes that outfield “grass” better in Wrigley? Boxberger has an ERA over 5 out of the bullpen; thanks for those back to back HRs allowed back in the day to Bote and Rizzo though. Jameson Taillon is higher than that, plus he’s been hurt; big surprise. Barnhart has been atrocious; don’t even think he’s batting his weight. Hosmer, Mancini, really? I wouldn’t mind if we didn’t see them on the field again; bring up more young guys! But yeah, I know… trying to increase their value so we can flip them at the deadline. Good luck.
The Cubs decided to improve a roster by nickel and diming it, just like the small to mid market team we are; wait what? OK, beating this dead horse again… when is the right time to be competitive again guys? I don’t know… Looking at the shit show that is the NL Central, how about this year? Too late. We’ve chosen (again) to sit this one out, and let another team take a very winnable division. The Cubs, with plenty of cash available to throw at the roster, have chosen to wait, and with fingers crossed, hope essentially the same roster as last year, improves on their 14 games under record. Who the heck is running this show?
Hey, I was happy they had started off well; I wanted to get excited, but… And no, I don’t like being doom and gloom, and with my teams, I always like wearing those rose colored glasses, but… I’m being realistic; who me? Yeah, how about that? Did I mention I was still pissed they broke up a perennial playoff contender made up of mostly the same roster who brought us the holy grail? I won’t be over it until we’re back in the playoffs. Making the playoffs 5 out of 6 years wasn’t good enough. This year, in all probability, will be the 3rd straight year the Cubs will miss the playoffs.
But hey, still 119 games to go; plenty of time… to flip some guys for minor leaguers and draft picks. That’s still the part of the process we’re in right? Bullshit! The Cubs, with all the means at their disposal (money!), should be on top of this division; no f-ing excuses. But yeah, let’s just “hope” this roster plays above the talent level they’re really at; no offense. Love my Cubs, but man… I see this latest crash as a preview of what to expect the rest of the way out; I hope I’m wrong. Go Cubs!
