The NFL does it right. What other sport has a televised schedule release? You may think it’s a bit much, and maybe you’re not necessarily in the football frame of mind right now, but I don’t know about you, I ate it up. Maybe because football is king. Maybe because I don’t have a horse in the NBA or NHL playoffs; maybe because the Cubs won’t sniff them either. Maybe because I can’t wait to see Justin Fields take the next steps in his development, hopefully on his way to being a very successful Bears QB for a long time, eventually bringing home a Super Bowl, but… first thing’s first. Let’s review the scheduled event.
The week 1 matchup with the 49ers at Soldier Field is only 17 Sundays away. The Bears have a good chance at winning that game, no? Feeling like going game by game, making some way too early predictions… Not my “official predictions” yet, but… maybe I’ll resist. Got a text from my 49er fan buddy inquiring about ticket prices for this one; he may come down to watch?!?! That would be great; I’d have to tell my brother to have my nephew’s party on Saturday instead of his actual birthday on Sunday… haha. My buddy also said “one of us is going to start 0-1″… this is true as well, unless you’re feeling a tie out of the gates?!?! Not a horrible way to start the season. In fact, our schedule isn’t horrible in general. I could see us being 500, or oh yeah, one game above or below, since this 17 game thing is here to stay, but we’ll get to those predictions a little later.
The games that I went to right away were the potential road games that I could attend. Trying to think… saw the Bears play in San Diego before; of course there was the trip to Oakland… that was fun. I think that’s it… not even a divisional road game?!?! That’s kind of crazy if you think about it. Well, I think that will be changing this year. Week 5 in Minnesota on Columbus Day weekend with my son off that Monday is the first opportunity. New Year’s Day in Detroit for Week 17 is option #2. We have to make one of those happen. Not sure if my wife would be down, but… if not, maybe I throw this out there to get a small caravan heading out to one of those destinations. Tickets can’t be too crazy right? I guess if the Lions were playing to clinch a playoff spot… oh wait…haha. Did I just say Lions and playoffs in the same breath? OK, that’s not nice, and hey, the Lions may actually be decent; I did say one year, if we weren’t in it, I wouldn’t mind seeing them win it all; you never know. The Vikes game could be more popular just because the weather may still be decent; they’re not in the Metrodome any more! Yeah, have to get to one of those games…
Some of the outside of the division teams we’ll be tangling with include the above mentioned 49ers, Texans, Giants, Commanders (Redskins), Dolphins, Falcons, and Jets; good chance to win more than half of these. The other, more difficult matchups include the Patriots, Cowboys, Eagles, and Bills; if we got 2 of those, that would be an accomplishment. Depending on how we do in the division… Lions and Vikings don’t scare me… Packers still own us, so there’s that. It’s May 15th and I’m thinking and talking Bears football!!! I even have a Bears t-shirt on…
Mark your calendars now; clear your Sundays. Regardless of how good or bad the Bears are, Sundays during the NFL season are always must watch TV. Whether you’re a red zone or NFL package guy, or like me, watch the Bears game no matter what, I think we can all agree, that it doesn’t get much better than NFL football. They are king for a reason; waiting for the Bears to be kings of the NFL again one day. 2022? Bear Down!
