May 12, 2022: All My Ex’s

I just shake my damn head… Thursday night certainly threw some stuff in our faces, no? As I scrolled through Twitter earlier in the day, I saw that Anthony Rizzo would be back in Chicago; he should have never F-ing left… the Cubs shouldn’t have allowed it. You know where I stand on this, but seeing him, back in Chicago… sucked. Of course everybody was asking him about the Cubs; as usual, nobody cares about the White Sox, the team Rizzo’s new team the Yankees were playing, which although expected is strange, because the White Sox vs Yankees could very well be an ALCS preview. Not priority on this night; everybody was asking Rizzo how it felt to be back. He was back in the same city, but not in Wrigley… that would have been much different. He certainly wouldn’t have been booed like he was by fans at Sox Park on Thursday night; what a bunch of dopes. Just booing any ex-Cubs huh? Well, you might as well boo the ones that play for your team too. Cease, Jimenez… anybody else? Even though it wasn’t at the cathedral, which would have been a lot more emotional, it still was like a kick in the nuts. Of course, Rizzo is having himself a great year thus far; lucky for us the Cubs have got it covered with their current roster…

Later in the evening, I got to watch another ex-Chicago ball player lead his team to the next round of the playoffs. Yes, Jimmy Butler and the Heat took care of the Sixers in 6, advancing to the ECF. All this discussion about Zach Lavine… max or no max… stay or go… and I think, he should have never came. The trading of Jimmy Butler was a bad one. If you asked me who I’d rather have right now, Buckets or Zach, I love you Zach, but the answer is easy: Jimmy. For that matter, if you asked me who I’d rather have Wendell or Vooch… OK, back to Butler; I know he had a rough ending in Chicago, and became a bit of a drama king, but… who wouldn’t drive themselves crazy playing for Hoiberg? After Thibs leadership, Hoiberg, Boylen, brutal; Donovan is better. Still, seeing Jimmy out there doing his thing on the big stage, while the Bulls are at home… another kick.

Speaking of all my ex’s… Bobby Portis is still playing with the Bucks; heck, he got a ring with them! And what about Cameron Payne with the Suns? Unbelievable!!! Nowhere near the category of the first 2 individuals I mentioned… I enjoy seeing Rizzo and Butler do well. I wish nothing but failure for Bobby “Sweet Pea” Portis and Cameron “Tank Commander” Payne. Yet, they’re still both playing in the NBA playoffs… Whatever.

But Rizzo, Butler… add them to the long list of guys that should have never played elsewhere; once we got them, we should have kept them. Hindsight is easy, but did it really take hindsight to understand that in the case of these 2 guys? Or maybe, just maybe, the folks in charge were too stupid to figure it out and/or too cheap to give a shit. I wonder how our teams would do if fans of the team actually had a say in running them. Sure, we don’t know all the ins and out of the “business”… that’s what they would tell us, but… watching our teams play year in year out, you kind of got a good idea of who’s a keeper and who’s a dumper. Rizzo and Butler were both keepers; glad to see them doing well elsewhere. Now I want to punch the people in the face that allowed this to happen…
