Four by Four makes me think of like an IHOP special or something. Four eggs, four sausages, four bacon strips, and four pancakes sounds like a pretty healthy breakfast; grab the spoon to clean out the arteries as my wife would say. Next thing I think about is two by four, and Hacksaw Jim Duggan. He’d come marching to the ring with his 2×4 and an American Flag and kick some guy’s ass. But no, I will be talking about neither of those today. Four by Four is just another way to say that we are down to the final four teams in each of the NBA and NHL playoffs.
It was fun when the Blackhawks were running things… In the last 10 years, the Blackhawks were in the Conference Finals 5 times; that’s more than any other NHL team in case you were wondering. Yes, even the Penguins were only in the Conference Finals 4 times . The Lightning actually tie the Penguins with this year’s berth in the Conference Finals. The Capitals, the other side of the matchup in the East, are making their first appearance. I guess I really don’t care who wins this one. I’d like to flip back to my predictions, and the reasons I want to root against teams, but.. neither one of these teams draws my ire that seriously. So, good luck to both.
On the other side, we find 2 teams making their first Conference Finals appearance in the last 10 years. Obviously, Vegas is in its first year; not bad with that one for one history. One of the reasons why I was hating on them, but… I’ve let that go, and actually am rooting for this team. But… not this round. The Jets were my pick from day 1 to win it all. I want to see them do it, and see Big Buff raise that Cup for the 2nd time.

Yeah, yeah… why did the Blackhawks not resign him? The answer is simple: salary cap. Have we missed him so greatly? If you consider the fact that we won 2 more Stanley Cups since his departure, I would say not that much. However, I would say that out of all the salary cap casualties, he’d be right at the top of my list. Loved that fight against the Predators when he was grabbing two of their guys like rag dolls. I do miss that physicality from Big Buff, the kind of stuff that is like gold in the playoffs. His getting into the head of Luongo, among others, was a big part of that 2010 initial Cup run.
I’ve enjoyed watching the NHL Playoffs this year, even without the Blackhawks. Yes I do miss them, but the worst part of it all, is that watching these teams play is making me feel like the Blackhawks may be done. I honestly think that every one of these 4 teams would kick the Blackhawks around. I guess that makes sense since the Hawks didn’t make the playoffs. But I still liked to think that they weren’t done… that we were still close to competing at the highest level, and grabbing another Cup with the old core. I’m not feeling that confident in that statement at this time, but a lot can change between now and then. For now, go Jets… moving onto the NBA…
