March 7, 2015: Dump Job

A 5th round pick… really?  Saving $7.7 million dollars, $3.95 million against the cap?  Was it really worth it?

I sat here yesterday, and said I really didn’t care if they moved Marshall or not.  I explained my reasoning.  I didn’t say it was OK just to dump him.

So you’re telling me the best we could get for him was a 5th round pick?  Say it ain’t so.  Did the negative outweigh the positive by that much?  So I’m disappointed because I think we could have got more for him.  If they decided it was best to trade him, fine.  I just can’t believe that’s all we got in return for a top flight WR when healthy…

Maybe that was the kicker… the health.  He was hurt on and off all last year… maybe that’s why they couldn’t get much in return for him.  Either way, I’m still a little pissed.  I’ll feel a little better if the Bears do the next logical step.

The next logical step here is to dump Cutler…. as long as we find a willing sucker, I mean suitor.  If this was a him or me type of move, then I think that’s a load of BS.  Why would we choose Cutler over Marshall?  Easy decision to some maybe, but not so much to me.  How many times are we going to choose Cutler before we learn our lesson?  If anyone should go to symbolize the start of a new regime, it’s Jay Cutler.

How much more time are we going to waste with that jerk face?  If by dumping Marshall, we’re shifting to a rebuilding mode, then we need to relieve ourselves of the biggest anchor.  Does it really matter what we get back in return for Cutler?  I don’t think so.  Saving his dollars would be enough of a win to do it… again, maybe there is just nobody who wants him.  Maybe we are truly stuck… but please, please tell me that we’re looking into it.

It was Cutler to Marshall that looked like gold many days.  This QB WR combo would most definitely lead us into the playoffs at the very least.  It’s like they knew exactly what the other was thinking on many of the completions.  Maybe Cutler lost Marshall on that wavelength when he tried to throw into triple coverage to get the ball to him.  Maybe Marshall STILL thought he could catch it.   Sometimes he did…  Many times the ball never got to him…. Maybe this was part of the problem?

Is this another move to help Jay?  By taking away his favorite target, this will force him to look at all options on an offensive pass pattern?  Now he has nobody to exclusively zone in on… until he finds his next favorite receiver.  I have a feeling that’s something we cannot change about Jay.  Looking down his receivers and poorly going through his progressions are two of the bigger issues with this “elite” QB.

I’d argue that you just hurt Jay.  If we’re truly stuck with him, and the Pace/Fox/Gase combo is going to try to make this work, then why would you take his favorite WR away?  I’d have to think the positives outweighed the negatives with Marshall.  When he was healthy, and maybe that was the cherry on top, but when we was healthy, he played at a very high level.  The games he didn’t play as well in could be as much Cutler’s fault as his own.  I mean, he can’t throw himself the ball.

Yeah, I’m going to continue my whining.  Maybe I’ll be happily surprised when more moves are announced.  Not offering Briggs a contract, and trading BMarsh were only the first of many.  Tillman most likely won’t return; I love how everybody thinks this Peanut guy is so great… he dissed all autograph seekers back in the day at Bourbonnais.  I’m just saying.  Is Forte next?  I really hope not.  What about some more of our top assets?  I guess it really doesn’t matter, as long as, Cutler is one of them.  If he goes, then I’ll be happy.  Have I made that clear?

So much more to come in this busy off season…  I hope.  It’s ashamed we couldn’t make this work with one of, if not the best, WR to ever wear a Bears uniform.  Are we now going to say goodbye to the franchise QB we waited so long to get?  Say it IS so.

I almost feel like the trade was meant to be a BIG FU to the CBC (cry baby cutler) which is a poor move by the Bears. I still say CBC is tradable to Washington. Trade him and our 1st pick for RG3 and their 4th pick, with Washington picking up 75% of the money remaining on his contract. Use the Jets fifth pick and Washington’s 4th pick to add to the D.

At this point don’t be afraid to see what you can get for Forte. I know its not popular move but Philly did it, maybe RBs are a dime a dozen. All of this is pointless if the CBC is not traded, even if the Bears eat most of the money!
