As we wait for baseball to get their shit together, wanted to chime in on a couple of the things that are out there. Bigger bases huh? Bigger is better they say… Not sure what the big deal is one way or another. I’d imagine trying to prevent an injury would be the biggest rationale there, although you could look at it both ways. Trying to save that first baseman’s foot and the runner from colliding, ok. But a bigger base, means more area for a guy to turn his ankle, no? Whatever… this has to be the stupidest of them all. Who cares? What is wrong with the size of the bases that have been used for the past 100 or so years? Might as well put advertisements on there while you’re at it. They already have the cameras in there, which is cool. It just feels like change for the sake of change, which is dumb.

The pitch clock is another one I saw out there; isn’t that already going on? I thought there was a clock, or maybe that’s for a pitching mound visit, that ticked down from 30 seconds, or something like that. Either way, it’s stupid. Why the hell is everybody in a hurry? If the length of time it takes for a normal major league baseball game to be played is a problem, then too bad. Are they changing the soccer timeframes, where you have less scoring than baseball? Or how about across the pond with Cricket, a match which could last all day? No, hell no. Baseball is meant to be 3 hours of entertainment, period; if it goes longer, or extra innings, that’s called BONUS baseball… that’s a GOOD thing. Why are people such in a hurry? That’s one of the problems nowadays… although many fans in LA have already been shortening the game by arriving in the 3rd inning and leaving in the 7th… true fans those Dodger faithful… with their fake COVID title… haha. Anyways, if you don’t enjoy a 3 hour baseball game, then maybe baseball isn’t for you, sorry not sorry.

Finally, the shift… banning the shift they say. Here’s my thought on this one. I don’t know about “banning” the shift, but making sure there are 2 infielders on each side of 2nd base, I AM in favor of. I compare it to football in a way. Aren’t there restrictions about how many guys have to be on the line of scrimmage? The minimum # of offensive linemen? Aren’t there formation “restrictions”, thus the penalty ILLEGAL FORMATION. I do think major league players should be able to adjust, like hitting it to the opposite field or bunting, etc. Yet, don’t we want guys hitting the ball as hard as possible? Don’t we want to encourage guys to keep it in the field… encourage active plays, other than home runs, strikeouts, and walks? That’s what some say… As the pitchers throw harder, and the spin rates increase, hitting that little ball gets harder as it is… now we’re letting 3B and SS lineup between 1st and 2nd base? 2 guys on each side of 2nd base, period.

OK, trying to catch up here… time to rip out another… maybe baseball will be back before I’m done…
