March 6, 2016: Sunday Funday

Coming off the Bulls win on Saturday night, we were looking for a good end to the weekend; we got it.

The Hawks and Wings squared off for the 2nd time this week, this time in the UC; the results were the same.  I just missed the start of the game, and the Hawks were already up 1-0; saw the highlight of Kane surpassing his career high point total.  I tuned in to see the Hawks score their 2nd goal; a long shot by Keith.  Eddie O called it, and they pulled their goalie.  Detroit did cut the deficit in half before the end of the period, as TVR was left defending virutally a 2 on 1 without a stick.  It was at this point, where I flipped channels…

I didn’t even want to… figuring this Golden State Los Angeles game would be a complete blowout.  They dubbed this game as “Kobe’s last game against Golden State”… who cares?  You can dub every one of Kobe’s games from here on out as “last game against X, last game against Y..”.  There is nothing special about his last matchup with the Warriors… as if they’ve had a long, exciting history of games between the two.  Only reason this is even on ABC is because of the greatness of the Warriors.  They even pumped that in the Bulls pregame the night before.  So stupid… anyways…

I did flip, and what I saw brought a smile to my face.  I don’t like the Lakers.  I just wrote a Hate File about Kobe.  Yet, after the result of yesterday’s game, the Lakers have a small piece in my heart.  Maybe just a sliver, unless for some strange reason, the Warriors come up 1 game short of the record; then I will really remember this game.  I had given up… basically conceding the record, with the remaining games left for Golden State, with most of them being at home.  With this loss against the Lakers, and the poor shooting of the Warriors which could sink them at any time… such a great team… there is a sliver of hope.  I’m not going to get too hyped up about it yet, but I was shocked to see this result… very happily shocked.  Who would have thunk… the Lakers helping our cause…

Back to the Hawks… and for some reason, I missed most of the 2nd… trying to remember why, but I heard the Wings dominated it.  Yet, the score remained the same.  The Hawks finished off the Wings in the middle of the 3rd, and another 2 points were in the bank.  Detroit Sucks resonated throughout the UC, and the Hawks held claim to the #1 spot heading into this week.

They really should do something about getting the original 6 teams to play each other more than twice a year, especially since 5 of the 6 teams reside in the East.  We get ripped off basically.  Watching the Hawks not only play Detroit, but Montreal, Boston, Toronto, and the New York Rangers, only 2 times each per year, is just not enough.  We did meet Boston in the 2013 Cup Finals, which was really sweet… we should have met the Rangers in 2014… but it sucks that we only get to play these teams this much.  NHL should work something out there… maybe 4 times per year, and cut 1 division game per year out.  These games should be shown nationally…. $ signs Bettman!

Overall, it was definitely Sunday Funday.  A Blackhawks victory, a Warriors loss, and a good end to the weekend.  Now it’s Monday, and it’s time to make the donuts…. Another week begins…

Lakers were good for one thing this year. Hopefully, that loss for gsw will leave them 1 win shy of the record.
Hawks took care of detroit and swept them away for the year…shouldnt see them this season anymore. It does suck that the Hawks dont play the other 5 originals more. The nhl should do something about that. History is important and bettman should jump on it!
