OK, so it wasn’t a TNT Thursday night home game, and it wasn’t against the Toronto Raptors, so… the Bulls lost to the Clippers on Saturday night at the UC. Yeah, I saw this coming.
Actually, I didn’t even bother watching most of the game. After the books were read and my son was sleeping, I turned immediately to the Blackhawks. They’re a lot more enjoyable to watch nowadays. Lately, every time I watch the Bulls I get pissed off. But yes, I did turn over to the Bulls once the Hawks had finished. By that time, the wheels had fallen off.
I’m sure most of us could have saw this coming. Maybe I need to start betting on Bulls games? I wish we could’ve seen some other stuff coming. Like for example, how long Jamal Crawford would be playing in this league. Sure would have been nice to have him shooting treys during the Thibs era, but who would have known that? Can’t blame that on GarPax right? Well, actually, Gar wasn’t here yet, but Paxson was here back in 2004…
Yeah, who the heck needs 3 point shooting anyways? It’s not like most successful teams are very good in this category… Yeah, uh huh. Crawford wasn’t the only guy that we parted ways with that could shoot the trey.
Anybody remember Kyle Korver? Good move letting him go. He’s only shooting 45% from 3 point land this year. Or how about Tony Snell? I was pretty happy with the trade for MCW, but after further review, Tony’s 39% from behind the arc is light years ahead of MCW’s 20%.
Yeah, we knew Rose wasn’t good from behind the arc; he currently sits at 22%, but how about the other guy in that trade? Yeah, Holliday is shooting 36% this year. We could have even kept E’twaun Moore; he’s shooting 40% from behind the arc. A lot better than let’s say Canaan at 27%.

Dunleavy is hitting at 39% and McDermott was hitting at 37% before we traded him. But we kept Mirotic at 30%, drafted Zipser who’s at the same, and picked up Wade and Rondo who are at 32 and 31%. But we saw this coming right? Well, somebody didn’t. I’m not saying it’s all about the 3 ball, but I thought FredBerg’s offense was all about the 3 ball?
It’s pretty bad looking back at it, and seeing what we let go in that category. Heck, even DJ Augustin is at 37%… CJ Watson at 33%… yeah, and we picked up Cameron Payne who is shooting… anyone… career 32%. Hey, but at least he’s younger and more athletic…
Yes, the 4 active Bulls better than 34% are Butler, Denzel, Grant, and Portis; both Portis and Grant are at 37%. Another reason to be high on Portis.
Again, not all about the 3 ball, but I think we can all agree that it is an important component of today’s NBA. I think we can all agree that this is another area where the Bulls keep screwing up in. Seeing the Clippers and Crawford reminded me of how far back this goes. Not to mention letting Hinrich go for a bit and Thabo Sefolosha…. yeah, he’s not so bad.
But unlike the t-shirts said on Saturday night, we’re supposed to trust in GarPax. And now you know why I’m frustrated… these are the 2 guys still in charge as we sit and hope for the Bulls to be better than a 500 team and make a legit run at the title again. Get comfortable… I hope you’re patient. It’s going to be a while… as if I had to tell you that… as if you can’t see that coming.

Teams are built on shooting threes…some chucking up between 30-40 a game with the rockets averaging 40.5 attempts a game. Guess who brings up the rear in 3pt makes and takes per game? Yep, you guessed it, our Chicago Bulls who average 6.8 out of 20.9 for 32.6%, which is 2nd to last percentage wise. 20 years ago during the Bulls 5th title, 22.7 was the most attempts per game. Only 2 teams this year average less than that, 1 being the Bulls. So yes, teams are living and dying by the three. The Bulls are not a 3pt shooting team. What is the label for this year’s Bulls? Mediocre might best fit. For all the good wins, there are just as many bad ones. Up and down, up and down. Going on 20 years since their last title. See #7 coming any time soon? I dont.
