March 4, 2020: Return of the Troops

No excuses OK. The Bulls were not a good team prior to the injuries, but man… with Otto, Wendell, and Lauri all out for an extended amount of time… that clearly made things worse. Regardless if it was Boylen or an empty chair coaching them, the team was not going to do as well. One question though: who is to blame for the injuries?

Is it just bad luck? If so, why do the Bulls seem to be the unluckiest team the past couple years? I’m not even talking about the Derrick Rose injury. There has been a combination of injuries to multiple players over the past couple seasons. Did we just draft/trade for/acquire the wrong players? Are they injury prone? Lauri played 68 games in his rookie season, 52 last year, and if he plays every single one of the remaining games this year will come in at 67 games. That would be good for about 76% on the court. Wendell played 44 games his rookie season; if he plays in each of the remaining games, he’ll come in at 60 this year which equals 63%. Otto only played 15 games after he was acquired mid season last year; he’s only played in 11 games thus far this year. 26 games in a Bulls uniform thus far and whole lot of cash. However, if you looked at his previous 4 years in Washington, he averaged 76 games played; that’s not bad… I’d like to see him a full season on the court for the Bulls; same with the other two guys. Are the injuries a Bulls issue? The strength and conditioning, offseason prep, intra-season workouts… do we have a problem here? I wanted to ask the Bulls trainer when I ran into him at Lincoln Park Zoo, but instead only said hello; he didn’t seem interested in chatting. Then when I saw him in Target a few weeks later, I left him alone completely. Is he ducking & dodging me? Hahaha…

Anyways, it was the return of the troops on Wednesday night in Minnesota. Win for sure right? Wrong. Of course, just because we had the guys come back, didn’t mean we were at 100%. Now Zach is out. I wonder if this is just all part of the plan to continue the tanking one more year… I mean, just leaving Boylen as coach is doing a good job of that, but pulling players, keeping them out for extended time… is there a method to the madness? All three of the guys didn’t matter… Coby couldn’t save us… another L for the Bulls. After miraculously beating the Mavericks the previous game, I thought maybe that would carry over… wrong again. Oh well…

The season continues on Friday night at the UC vs Indiana; I will be in the house for the last time this year. If we could squeeze out one more win for the year, I would surely appreciate if that could come in this one. I’m sick of seeing them lose, especially in person… although we did see them beat the Clippers earlier this year. 20 more games to go…
