March 31st… a day I will never forget; just to make sure, I got the Roman numerals tattooed on my arm. Yes, the story goes like this: guy was at home in bed and got a call from his friends asking him to go out. After some hemming and hawing, guy decides to do it, jumps in shower, and heads out. While waiting with his friends waiting to meet these girls, he sees another girl. He talks to this girl, dances with this girl, and gets those digits. That guy was me; that girl would be my wife.
19 years later here we sit. We weren’t together that whole time, but most of it. All those days weren’t happy, but most of them were. It’s crazy that I have known my wife 19 years now; shit, almost 2 decades. Obviously have known my mother and father since birth; my brother and sister since they were born. I have friends that I knew since I was 5 years old; others that I met in high school, many more that I have met at work since graduating high school. Yet, there is only one wifey…
That brings us to the 9, which is our official anniversary year that we are celebrating in 2020. Yes, we got married on the same day that we met, 10 years later. It wasn’t our original plan, but I think it worked out how it was supposed to. As far as celebrating this year, it consisted of exchanging cards and ordering delivery for lunch. Yeah, this covid-19 stuff sucks. We’ll make up for it. Actually our day started off by getting a surprise from our son, who got up before us and made us a card; what a thoughtful kid!

But today I needed to take a pause and recognize the woman who puts up with my sports crazed ass; she likes it too. I went to my first ever Bears playoff game with her; I think I told the story. She waited in line and won a random raffle to get those tickets; what a thoughtful girl! Yeah, I don’t recall if I told the entire story about that game, not sure if I ever should. But there was more… plenty of Cubs games; she likes the bleachers the most. I went to my first Blackhawks game with her also, back when the UC was empty; I’m not going to tell the entire story of that game either. We saw the Bears in San Diego; that was awesome other than the loss. And as far as the Bulls go… that was my season ticket partner back in 2010, as we attended almost all of the home games that year.
I love that we can enjoy my teams together; just one of the many things I love about her… but we’ll stop here for now. Happy Anniversary babe! March 31st forever!
