March 31, 2017: That Time of Year

posted in: Blackhawks | 1

After all the holiday hub bub, we roll into a very busy time of year.  It all starts about February 22nd.  My sister’s birthday starts a busy six week stretch of the year; possibly the busiest time of the year.

My dad’s follows on the 28th.  My father in law comes in on March 3rd. Then it really picks up. My wife’s birthday on the 12th, our anniversary on the 31st, and my son on April 3rd.  It gets busy; it’s that time of year.

Same can be said for Chicago sports. The Bulls and Blackhawks season is coming down to the wire, while the Cubs and Sox are just starting off.  Oh yeah, and the Bears offseason is in full swing.  Where do we start?

My anniversary I guess. 6 years or 16 depending on which way you look at it. Meeting her on this day 16 years ago and marrying her 10 years later on the day is a nice story.  Ours is definitely quite the story.  Not for the faint of heart, but one that shows and proves that there is a plan…sometimes one that is out of our control. It all worked out and the rest is history.  Many more to go…

The Hawks played on this evening; I did not watch. We were out and about. Little dinner followed by a visit to Rivers casino.  It sucked.  Not the dinner or the result of the Hawks game, but the casino.  Yes, it was smoke free, but it was small and crowded; I swear we couldn’t find any quarter slots.  At least we can say we were there…

And the Hawks can say they beat another one of the top teams in the East.  This time against the upstart Blue Jackets.  Not too concerning either I don’t think. I do miss Brandon Saad though.  I saw a quick survey in Twitter asking which Bkackhawk do you wish we could have back.  For me, Saad would be on top of that list with Byfuglien.

We did get Anisimov back in the Saad deal.  He should be back on the ice soon.  He hasn’t been half bad.  He’s been more than ok.  Will he be better than Saad in the long run?  Winning the Cup this year would be acceptable…winning makes everything all right.

And that’s what they continue to do.  On this final day of March, we look towards the playoffs. We’ve been looking that way a while now.  Well, no need to wait much longer.  There’s really not that much more to say about the Hawks at this point.  So why don’t we wait to talk about them again until the playoffs start.  I’m fine with that.

After all, we have options.  Not all good options, but options.  So get ready.  Get ready for the busiest time of the year.

That’s what I’ve been up to.  Family first you know?  Catching up on this blog ranks after that; here’s one.

2 teams wrapping up their regular season while 2 others look to begin the long 162 game grind. The Bhawks are locked into the top spot in the west while the Bulls are fighting to just make it. We could have some extended time of 4 Chicago sports teams playing at the same time…only time of year that this could happen. Hockey will continue on, basketball may too, but baseball is just about back. Usually the time of year where hope springs eternal. Could this be the year is usually the question. Not this year. Last year was it…time for the Cubs to do it again. Maybe the Bhawks can say the same?
