Monday night the Hawks welcomed the Kings to Chicago. OK, LAs time to get their beating against us; no reason to think otherwise. The Blackhawks are 2nd worse in the league; the Kings are a playoff team looking to improve their postseason position. Blowout, right? Right… just not the way you would have expected. The Blackhawks beat the Kings 5-1; wtf?
The Blackhawks have beat good teams before, like Edmonton back on October 12th. They’ve beat Florida, Dallas, Washington, both NY teams, Vegas, Colorado, Minnesota, and now, for the second time, the LA Kings. This also served as a back to back W for the boys; consecutive wins have only happened 2x prior to this day. Is it just that the team is pumped to have Seth Jones gone? Haha… It may have had a little something to do with the player we got in return for him: Spencer Knight.
When it comes to team debuts, not sure you can record one much better. 41 saves in net in front of the faithful at the UC; what a way to make a first impression. He’s a big kid. At 6’3″, he stands tall in the crease; it’s not only his height. He was top 10 in GAA this season; after all, he was a former first round pick. The kid is no slouch. Stuck behind an awesome goalie in his own right down in Florida, Spencer will get a chance to show what he’s got here in Chicago, and if this one is any indication, well… there may be something else to get excited about other than Connor Bedard.
Way too early for that, but for one magical debut evening in Chicago on Monday night, we were all “knighted”. Yes, it was “good knight” to the Kings; I could go all day. It was “Spencer for hire”… haha. OK, we get it. It was great seeing some of the stuff after the game. Of course, he was the #1 star; his team gave him the belt in the locker room, which he responded with an “F bomb”, talking about first or last, we’re going to win some hockey games; he’s getting my attention. The kid is about to turn 24 years old. We can only hope we have found our goalie of the future.
Will the Hawks keep this going and pick up a 3rd win in a row for only the 2nd time this year? A date on Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators is up next. Word is, it will be Knight and Soderblom in net from here on out; nothing against Arvid, but I really want to see something from the new guy. I want to see him dominate, even with a sub-par defense in front of him, to put it lightly. Arvid did get the win against Anaheim on Sunday, but before then… it was a little over a month ago; not necessarily a reflection against him, but the Hawks team as a whole. This whole Seth Jones trade/Spencer Knight arrival seems to have sparked the Hawks a little; how long will that spark last? Let’s finish the season strong guys. Go Hawks!
