March 3, 2023: Super Suns

The NBA’s newest “super team” visited the Bulls at the UC for a Friday night tilt. For a second, I remembered how the Bulls had knocked off some of the top NBA teams, and thought, hey, this is possible. When I checked the score at the half, it certainly seemed so, but… the Super Suns were too much, defeating the Bulls 125-104. Happy start to the weekend Chicago! Hey, at least we didn’t get all that snow we were supposed to get.

I didn’t get to watch any of the game, since we were on the road at my son’s basketball playoff game. Hey, I thought his basketball season ended weeks ago? Yes, his 5th grade season ended; they finished 13-0. This is the second league his school got in; this is a 6th grade team. Being a 6th grade team, he comes off the bench for these games; no chance to be the leading scorer on this team… haha. And get this: this team is undefeated too! The #1 seed heading into the playoffs, easily dispatched of their playoff opponent on Friday night; my son played pretty much the entire 4th quarter in this blowout. The championship game will be on Sunday. It will be a rematch of the closest game of the year; their first matchup was decided by a 3 pointer at the buzzer, so… maybe we’ll have ourselves a game. Good luck to the boys!

Back to the Bulls though, or maybe let’s just start with their opponent. Did we have the 2023 NBA champions in the house on Friday night? The Suns were already one of the best teams in the league, when healthy, with Booker, Paul, and Ayton. Add KD to the mix, and…??? Are the Suns now THE best team in the league? I’m sure there are some fans across the league that would have a different opinion, but… Suns Celtics Finals seems like the most likely to occur. KD, now on his 4th team, had an easy way out of Brooklyn once Kyrie decided he was done. The Nets were actually doing pretty well before that. Kyrie in Dallas hasn’t really turned out like he’d hoped thus far; he’ll be gone after this year. A Mavs Suns matchup would be an easy win for Phoenix IMO. Maybe the Lakers can take the Suns out? Hahaha… there are people that actually believe the Lakers when healthy have the best roster… SMDH. LeBron has decided to take a month vacation, so not sure we’ll even see the Lake Show in the playoffs, although with the 9 & 10 seed in play now, you never know.

That’s what the Bulls will continue to focus on: making the NBA playoff play in game. Way to shoot for the stars guys. I thought it was pretty funny when Chuck and Bill were looking at all the records of the teams in contention for those spots, already scoreboard watching, as the Bulls have only 18 games left on their schedule; this season can’t end soon enough. As we look at the standings, the Bulls now sit 2 games out of the 10 seed; maybe the Pat Bev era will be over just as it began. Shocker…

The Bulls will host the team that is one game behind them, the Indiana Pacers, on Sunday afternoon. Will the Bulls slip down to the 12th seed? Is it time for the Bulls to bottom out and shoot for the best draft odds at this point in the season? Never thought I’d be asking that question heading into this season, yet, here we sit. How about this? Let’s finish with some pride, and finish strong, getting into the playoffs any way possible, and winning some games there. I can barely say that with a straight face… haha. Anyways, I’m not going anywhere… Go Bulls…
