We’ve talked about all the changes going on with our Bulls and Hawks. There has been more change. As far as I’m concerned, I hope we’re done for a while.
What else can happen to the Bulls? The type of changes that have been going on with the Bulls are ones that you don’t like to see. It’s those type of changes that you pray against; the injury bug has taken a chunk out of the Bulls ass again. I’ve been saying it all year… if we can only remain healthy. That didn’t happen.
First, Rose for the 3rd time in 3 years goes under the knife. Yeah, they say 4-6 weeks, and I really want to believe that, but… we’ve been down similar paths. Yes, this one is the most minor surgery, but 3 in 3 years!?!?! Then Taj goes down with an ankle sprain; different level for sure, but… he’s had a history of ankle problems. He’s played through most of them as one of Thibs finest warriors. Now he’s out for the foreseeable future. As if those two weren’t enough, Jimmy Buckets is out for 3-6 weeks with a sprained elbow. If you’re keeping track at home, that’s 3 of the top 5 guys out… Not sure which team could handle that blow, although there have been injuries all around the NBA this year…

When is enough enough? When does it become too much for any one team to overcome? Have we hit that point again with the Bulls? The good news is that we’d have to completely tank to miss the playoffs in the East, and I just don’t think that’s going to happen. Now our seeding can be completely screwed up, but who cares. Who cares, as long as we get everybody back healthy for when it counts. The question is will that happen. So sit back, relax, and try to stem the tide of losses that will be happening, and pray for the healthy return of all the troops. Wouldn’t it be great it they all came back healthy, and we went on a serious run?
Then there’s the changes going on with the other UC squad. The one change that prompted the rest was the Patrick Kane injury. Unlike the Bulls injuries, we will definitely NOT see him before the playoffs. The only way we’re seeing him back on the ice this year is if we get back to the Western Conference Finals. Would the Blackhawks have made these other changes if he was still healthy? We’ll never know. Personally, I’m happy the Blackhawks are doing something to try and get the mojo back on our side, and make a deep playoff run without Kane. That was the one advantage the Hawks had over the Bulls; this happened BEFORE the trade deadline. Have they done too much? First, we acquired Timmonen, then Vermette, and now Desjardins. Did we give up too much? We gave up some good draft picks, Dahlberg- a defenseman compared to Hammer, and Ben Smith, an important part of that top 5 penalty kill unit, who had a pretty good postseason run last year. Only time will tell, but I like what the Hawks did. It’s win now mode, and bringing these pieces in, help our chances. Forget next year. It’s not like the Hawks emptied the coffers to get these guys. These Hawks always stock pile draft picks and young talent; it’s a smart way to go… gives them options. Another team in town is trying to do things the same way. So we gave up some picks, so we dumped Smith… We’ll have to see how all these guys fit in, and how the team gels with them, but I’m excited to see it. I’m excited to see how things play out for the Hawks. Wouldn’t it be great if they DID make it back to the Western Conference Finals, and Kane returned to the ice?
That’s pretty much all we can do; hope that things work out in the year of change for the Bulls and Hawks. Nobody likes change. Sometimes it’s best when it’s forced upon us. Sometimes that brings out the best in people. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season unfolds. It’s come to a point where as fans you just have to be defiant. We need to stick the middle finger up at all this bad luck. We have to take all this in stride. We will play through it. We will still succeed. There is never too much. Bring it on… Bring it on!!!

right on with the injury update. i’d look for more from the thibs crew. butler was doomed to join that list the way thibs was pushing him. constantly playing guys over 33 minutes, and butler actually was at the 40 minute last week one game. just a matter of time. now he’s forced to go to the bench. i like riding your horses down the stretch in games. but if you rest them during the game, they’ll be able to play the way we need them to in the 4th qtr. and if you’re up over 10 in the 4th, pull them out instead of continuing to ride them.

“constantly playing guys over 33 minutes” What has happened to the NBA? When has playing more minutes been a problem?

when it leads to injuries and being too tired to respond in the 4th qtr crunch time like with today’s out-of-shape and poorly conditioned athletes. years ago players actually took care of themselves in the off-season and came into camp in ‘ready to play shape’. not so much anymore. it’s just pay me and we’ll see where it goes from there.

Amen!!
