March 28, 2025: Halfcourt Heave

I’m not going to lie; there was a lot going on Thursday night. The Sweet 16 kicked off; it was Opening Day in the MLB. I was on our 1 TV that does NOT have an antenna. Although I was checking in on the Bulls vs the Lakers, I was not watching; I couldn’t watch on the TV I had parked in front of. After checking the score, I wasn’t missing anything. The Bulls were getting killed; I figured as much. Lakers should have been embarrassed for getting destroyed by the Bulls in LA; they were certainly out for revenge… and getting it. Don’t need to watch that. Well, then I heard my wife yell; I checked my phone. Coby White had just made a three pointer to give the Bulls the lead; WTF?!?! I ran upstairs to watch the end of the game, thankfully.

Of course, catching up on the highlights after the game, I saw how we got here; the Bulls couldn’t miss in the 4th quarter, outscoring the Fakers by 18 points where it was all said and done. Still, we were down by 5 points with like 10 seconds left… when Vooch swung it to Patrick Williams for a corner 3; nice closeout by the defensive guru LeBron James btw. Still down 2, all the Lakers needed to do was get the ball in bounds, and hit some free throws. Well, there goes that guy again; LeBron threw a lazy pass that was stolen by Giddey. He immediately kicked it out to Coby, which after his shot went through the hoop, was when I heard my wife yell. Ok, we’re all caught up…

Lakers had time; would LeBron get the last shot in the house that MJ built? He was coming off a game winning tip in, after his time at the Pat McAfee show earlier in the week; I didn’t watch, but couldn’t avoid some of this stuff. I really don’t care, but man is this guy an ass… all about LBJ man. And here he was, again, with a chance to show some of his naysayers that he could hit a big shot in the clutch, in Chicago; he had done it before back years ago in the playoffs. He didn’t even get the ball. It went to Reaves who easily laid it in; that’s another story. Lakers had the lead; OK time out Bulls. Well, the Bulls had no time outs. As Giddey got the ball in his hands, it was time for the halfcourt heave… we know what happened next. Fricking amazing!!!

Yes, Josh Giddey hit the game winner from halfcourt right over a semi-outstretched arm of that guy again, LeBron James. It was so sweet… I mean, any time you hit a halfcourt shot is special; I remember when my son made one… over the top excited. Hitting a halfcourt shot to win the game??? At home??? Against the Fakers??? Yes, it was extra special, and what better guy to do it than Josh. Between him and Coby the Bulls have been playing their best ball all year.

In a game that I thought was lost for sure, one I hadn’t tuned into, I was sure happy I ran upstairs to watch the end. When the shot when in, I yelled… What a win! This is one of those games that we will not forget any time soon. Nice job boys. Go Bulls!
