March 28, 2015: 14 Days

With all the exciting stuff going on with the Cubs, there has been one story that keeps taking the spotlight.  Should Kris Bryant start this year in AAA or the majors?  I’m sure we’ve all heard enough about this to make us sick.  The thing that gets me…  all this back and forth, all this drama, all these stories are about 14 days.

14 DAYS?!?!  Yes, this is how long Kris Bryant has to wait to make his major league debut.  This is the whole time and service thing; that thing that major league baseball negotiates for its teams and players. They were discussing this on Inside the Clubhouse on the Score this morning.  By the way, if you like Chicago baseball, this show is a MUST listen.  Bruce Levine is the main guy with various co-hosts.  You will be a smarter fan after you listen to them; I certainly am.  Anyways, if the Cubs wait 14 days to bring up Kris Bryant, the Cubs have another year of control over him.  He would be unable to go to free agency for a whole ‘nother year.

Everybody knows who his agent is:  Scott Boras.  Here is probably the best agent in all of sports.  He negotiates with an iron fist, getting his players the best possible deal; most possible money.  It’s no wonder Bryant sort of defended him during this whole back and forth.  Of course you’ll defend him; this is the bulldog in your corner that is going to make you rich.  Well, your talent and performance will make you rich, but he will help maximize that.  That’s fine.  He has a job to do, and his number one interest is his players.  Oh, I’m sure it also helps that he gets a percentage of that; lining his pockets with %’s of millions of dollars.  I’m sure he’s doing OK too.  So Boras is all about the player; that is understood.

Shouldn’t the Cubs be all about the players too?  The Cubs should be all about the Cubs.  THAT is the number one interest here.  The success of the Cubs is top priority for Theo and his crew.  That’s how that should work.  Why buckle under the pressure of Boras?  Why give in to what Bryant wants?  Why do it to appease MLB who has a close eye on this situation?  The Cubs need to do what is best for them.  By sending Bryant down to the minors for 14 days, the Cubs get another year of control over maybe the best prospect ever in the Cubs organization.  THAT is what is best for the Cubs in this situation.
As we all know sex is a overnight cialis normal condition but when it occurs periodically it becomes a matter of concern than. Of course, Theo has come out now saying that he doesn’t like to start prospects with the big league club on opening day; that he’d rather bring them up during the season.  Yeah, OK.  It’s a nice try.  It’s also convenient that they’ve moved him to the outfield this past week; another reason to send him down to the minors initially.  He needs to work on his defense.  He needs to learn this new position.  Very smart move.  I don’t think anybody is fooled though…

I don’t care though.  Like I said the Cubs are doing what’s best for the Cubs; I can’t be mad at that.  What is 14 days going to matter in the big scheme of things?  Are 2 weeks in April going to make or break the Cubs season?  Is not bringing up your top prospect for 2 weeks saying you’re not serious about winning?  Give me a fricking break.  The Cubs ARE serious about winning… finally.  Doesn’t everybody understand Theo’s plan now?  Doesn’t everybody think the last 3 years are worth it now?  Don’t you think the future for the Cubs is as bright as ever?  This decision is another decision that says the Cubs are in it to win it.  We’re in it for the long haul here.  We’re not trying to throw everything to the wind to try to win one year.  We’re trying to be good for a while, get as many good chances as we can at this thing, and cash in…at least once.  Hey, all I need is one, however it comes.

Let’s put this whole issue behind us, because by the end of April, this will be a non-issue.  Years from now, if this guy is as good as advertised, if this Cubs team plays as good as it should, if the 100+ year curse is finally broken, who is going to really care?  Nobody.  Next subject.

This whole deal comes down to 1 year. If bryant is held back the 14 days, the Cubs have control thru 2021. If not, they have him thru 2020. Does anyone actually think if he is that good, the Cubs will not sign this guy forever? It is all nonsense. Either way, I think the Cubs hold him back with his debut 2 weeks after the season starts…not a big deal either way. No need for this to tarnish what could be an exciting year for the Cubs. It is not personal, it is strictly business! I hope this kid comes up and rakes all year. The Cubs need that stud on offense who strikes fear into opposing pitchers, and bryant seems like he is the guy to do it…for a long time, let’s hope!
    GO CUBS GO!!!
