March 27, 2022: Hibernating

It’s that time of year, when most NFL teams are busy shaping their roster for the upcoming season; this feels like it has never been more true than this season. All the big names changing teams. While all this is happening, why does it feel like our team, the Bears, are hibernating? Maybe just perception… I’m sure there’s a lot of work going on… not a whole lot of results yet though. Lots of people are getting impatient… not me… not yet.

I don’t like that the Bears got rid of Mack. This was the one big name the Bears have been linked to this offseason, unfortunately it was the loss, not the gain of a superstar. Mack is a superstar, right? Your team does NOT get better by subtracting superstar players, fact. Like anything, more to come; who will we replace Mack and his salary with? Are we able to bring in 3 decent starters to “replace” him? If so, OK; we only got 2 draft picks. Maybe we hit it big with the 2nd round pick… who knows. I do know that the Bears have gotten worse not better thus far this offseason; you’re going the wrong way!!!

There’s still time to turn this thing around, to get some positive traction. We did sign that DT from the Bengals right? Oh wait, he failed his physical. We did sign that OL from the Bills right? Oh wait, the Bills matched our offer. Yes, but we did get another QB. Another QB?!?! I know, we have added a few pieces here and there; that’s cool. But, there have been a whole lot of guys going the other way, not necessarily any ones that I’m that upset to lose. ARob has left the building; bye. He was pretty good, all things considering, yet, it certainly felt like he quit on the team last year; no need for someone like that. Tarik Cohen. What the heck happened with that guy’s offseason surgery? Was it done in some third world country where he was butchered? Supposed to be back at the start of last season, he missed the entire year! I really liked Tarik, but… if he’s not going to be healthy, then… good luck to him. James Daniels. I thought that was one of the picks Pace hit on? He’s gone now to reunite with his QB Trubisky in Pittsburgh. OK. Akiem Hicks is gone for all intensive purposes; where he’ll end up who knows. When he was healthy, boy… he was about as good a run stuffer as there was; again, hasn’t been very healthy though. Eddie Goldman is outta here. Really liked Eddie, but didn’t seem to be the same after he sat out a year due to COVID. Watch him do great wherever he ends up. Bilal Nichols with the Raiders; I liked that dude too. Danny T… gone too. See, like I said, whole lot of subtraction going on…

There have been a couple pickups, sure, but… if we thought the Bears were close to competing for a division title next year, everything that has taken place thus far, certainly puts us further away from this goal. Honestly, I didn’t think we were that far away; we are now though. It’s another game of expectations at this point; they aren’t very great for the Bears. Due to the GM and coaching changes, we have to be patient though; we have to give these new guys a shot to put their team together. I didn’t think it was going to take that long, but by the looks of it, we better have a lot of patience guys. Waiting for the Bears to bring in a big name… Bear Down!
