March 27, 2019: Can’t Quit

posted in: Blackhawks, Bulls | 0

Yeah, I know… I said I would only be casually following the Bulls and Blackhawks play out their seasons.  Heck, with March Madness, Cubs Opening Day, my fantasy baseball draft, even anticipation for the Bears 1st game… why do I want to depress myself with watching them?  Well, I can’t quit…

Tuned into the Bulls Raptors for a bit… I knew that would be ugly, but even more so after I saw the lineup.  Lavine, Porter, and Dunn were all out.  Lauri never made it back after the half; he was the only legit NBA starter on the floor the first half for us.  OK, guess you can make the argument for RoLo, and I love Ryan and Shaq… Selden is OK too, but starters?  That would be a decent 2nd string, maybe 3rd string.  But that is our Bulls at this point in the season as we tick down towards the NBA draft lottery, hoping to get lucky.  Nothing much else to report here…

The Blackhawks on the other end pulled me back in after an exciting win on Sunday night.  Out of all people, Duncan Keith scored the game winner, while playing 3 on 3 in OT!!!  Yep, Chicago runs on Duncan was back.  That was a great play, and a really great game played by the Hawks.  So, I said, OK… I guess maybe they still have an outside chance… so I stood up to watch them in Arizona on Tuesday night; that was a mistake.

I guess the game was good enough… close game, defensive battle.  If you didn’t think the Hawks were done already, certainly this 1-0 loss should convince you.  We had nothing going on for most of the game.  I’ll tell you what, Kane looks done; I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s hurt, but man, he looks beat.  All those minutes catching up?  DeBrincat has been non-existent on the score sheet that last 5 games.  And with the Hawks relying on Toews and them two so much, it’s easy to see why they couldn’t keep winning without them.  Definitely some work to do for Bowman this offseason, but I certainly am not mad with the run the Hawks made this year.  It gives me hope.

The Bulls on the other hand… well, they have settled into full tank mode, ensuring our odds don’t get any worse… and that’s OK.  I didn’t think we’d be here at the start of the year, but now that we are… chalk it up.  Still sucks.  Certainly the Bulls will be better next year, but that’s what we thought at the end of last year.  We added a high draft pick, and more of the same.  We’ll add another high pick, more of the same?  Surely Boylen will help turn this around.  Surely GarPax will make the right moves.  Do I sound confident?

I guess that’s why it’s extra exciting thinking about the Cubs and Bears seasons.  Coming off the UC seasons, it’s time for some winning.  Yet, until both the Bulls and the Hawks are officially done, I most likely will continue to tune in.  A glutton for punishment I tell you.
