7-0? I couldn’t believe the final when I heard it. Thankfully, I had not reserved time to watch tonight’s Blackhawks game. I didn’t need to watch any highlights, or read any postgame comments, to understand how ugly a game this was. Chalk it up boys.
I’m starting to worry a little. No, not that the Hawks aren’t good enough to win their 4th Stanley Cup. They are. They know they are; that may be part of the problem. Yes, it’s a familiar spot for the Hawks. Knowing how great a team you have… having the utmost confidence in yourselves… feeling like you can turn it on when you need to… that’s where the problem comes in. Yes, I flash back to 2014 to remind myself of the dangers with that type of thinking. I’m not saying the Hawks are over confident; I’m just saying that I’ve seen this before.
The win against Colorado and the loss against Vancouver were two quick examples. Waiting until the 3rd period to turn it on, the Hawks got the win in one, but couldn’t get the win in the other. Then there was the tight win over Dallas, followed by this blowout. Yes, the Hawks have been so hot… so good… you knew these games would happen. I just hope that’s all it is.
You see, in a playoff series, I hate when the Hawks dig themselves a hole. They’ve done it a number of times. First of all, I always believe that the Hawks will win their series, regardless of the situation. Down 2-0, 3-1, it doesn’t matter. I have the utmost confidence in the Blackhawks. I’ve seen them come back many times; there have also been times when we haven’t been able to.
That’s the problem with digging a hole. You need everything to go right to make it all the way back to win the series. I’m not saying the Hawks will dig themselves a hole come this postseason, but what I want to see, is their A game 100% of the time. Is that too much to ask?

If the Hawks bring their A game night in night out in the playoffs, they will win their 4th Stanley Cup this decade. I do believe that. I believe that the biggest threat to the Hawks is themselves.
Now we have the experience, the leadership, and the coaching to do this. We have the hungry young guys looking to get their first Cup. It’s a perfect blend, in my humble opinion. Regardless, not staying on top of your game, opens the door for some lesser opponent to win the series. Am I saying the Kings were the lesser opponent in 2014? You’re damn right I am.
It’s easier to forget about, with 3 recent banners hanging in the rafters, but let’s just be honest; there should already be 4. But that’s OK, I just want to get that number 4 this year. I don’t want the Hawks to put themselves in a bad situation. I want them to bring it constantly. I want them to win every game. Is that asking too much?
Haha… yes, these are great team problems for sure. And I’m not going to get too wound up about some regular season losses. But with our Hawks, there is always one eye on the playoffs; we know that’s when the real season begins. We find things to worry about; this is my biggest one. Get mad boys. Learn the lesson now. Because in 7 more games, the playoffs will be here. Be ready. Be focused. Bring it home. Go Hawks!

Blowout games like these come along now and then during the 82 game grind, even for the Bhawks. This one is an easy one to forget and let go…definitely an anomoly. Digging themselves holes is something the Bhawks have done in the past. It is not a good recipe to have for success, especially in the postseason when a bounce here or there can decide games. Lets hope the Bhawks have learned this from their past and will not try to switch things on and off. Let the chemistry and talent flow, finish this year atop the west, and make that 4th Cup run in 8 years! GO BHAWKS!!!
