March 24, 2016: Two Step

posted in: Bulls | 2

The Bulls pulled out their version of the two step this week vs the New York Knicks.  That old two step has got the Bulls heading right out of the playoffs.

It’s getting old really.  It’s not even fun to talk about any more.  I hate listening to it on sports radio.  If that’s how we feel, imagine how the Bulls feel.  Hoiberg, getting in front of those microphones after every loss, trying to explain it away.  It’s like a broken record.  Who has the solution here?  Is there a solution with THIS team?  Or is the solution really to blow this thing up after this year?

I’m starting to think it’s the second option.  I thought that maybe this team could step it up and make one last run in the playoffs.  I was holding out hope.  This combination delivered by the Knicks in back to back nights has got me feeling a little woozie…  I forgot all about that dream of a playoff run.  It’s hard to imagine that the Bulls may actually miss the playoffs… wow!

We have to go back 8 years to the last time that happened.  There was that streak of six years after Jordan left that the Bulls didn’t make the playoffs.  But since 2005, we’ve only missed once.  We made the playoffs all 13 years of the Jordan era.  But that is long ago and far away, and although we will be talking about that again soon in our 1991 Bulls feature, current times don’t look so good right about now.  What if this team misses the playoffs?  Who comes back next year?  Who will be the casualties of this “blow up”?

Hoiberg isn’t going anywhere; you would think the same about Butler.  Now what?  Gasol.. resigning him to big money would be a mistake.  Derrick… he still will have one year on his contract, but if he was thinking about free agency and a max contract before this year, I’m sure that’s what will be on his brain next year; putting himself above the team.  Taj…  love Taj.  Noah… probably gone, and that pisses me off.  Or maybe he comes back, and we let Pau walk.  We would still need to add players in any scenario.

We would be in the lottery if we miss the playoffs, and could get lucky.  Like that time we got lucky with Derrick Rose… or now, looking back, unlucky?  It’s been a grueling season.  It’s been tough to watch at times.  They’ve only shown flashes of the great Thibs Bulls.  Do they have one more flash in them?

Sitting on the outside looking in with 11 games left… some tough games at that, it doesn’t look great.  I’ll still hold out hope, because that’s what I do, but the reality stinks…. kind of like the Bulls this year.  Plenty of blame to go around.  I mean, losing to the Knicks 2 straight in the middle of battling for our playoff lives???  That’s a whole lot worse than a bad two step… what is the next move?  Hopefully not a nose dive.

Bulls are done this year. Just like the trestman Bears, nobody knows why considering how well they practice, but we all know something is not working. Does that mean fredberg is gone? Maybe. Pau should be and so should drose if the Bulls can. Just seems that the coach and certain players are not fully invested. Either way, something big needs to happen. A team fighting for their playoff lives and losing b2b to nyk is horrible. No pride, no heart, no idea what is wrong or how to fix it!
